It is fascinating that the search engine changes domains every single time you use it. While I'm big into privacy, I don't understand all these intricate details, but it seems cool and has yielded pinpoint results so far.

I just learned about the vast network of https://trom.tf through... hmm, I can't remember any more, haha! But it was either somewhere in the Lemmyverse or on Reddit, perhaps in a comment on a post in /r/privacy.

This TROM endeavor looks incredibly ambitious, so while FOSS is always welcome, I'm not sure about how long they'll be able to last running so many different projects. It feels like it's trying to be an immediate Google replacement and I fear that those who run it may be biting off more than they can chew... so I'm just trying the search engine for now.

What's wrong with https://lmstudio.ai or https://jan.ai for offline, private, FOSS use?

That's not dishonesty; he should not have used the word "all." "Many species" would have been correct, but not "all," even if "in general" is present.

Regardless, the point still stands either way, and I see you're not addressing it, either.

So just do what's commonest because it's commonest and no other reason?

Too vague to action on as-is.

Maybe I can elaborate on @asudox's note:

Client error. Code: 401. Message: Attempted to call an auth'd endpoint with the wrong account. Account instance: (one instance URL) Api instance: (other instance URL).

When I went to this post, initially, after having changed accounts across instances in the app, it didn't give me the instances-mismatch prompt at the top even after refreshing, and then I couldn't comment. This happened with multiple posts and I haven't able to figure out how to get it to change APIs at the moment of account-switching. For example, the Lemmy app Thunder has no such issue; it always uses the correct API per account.

Other reader chiming in: I wonder if there is any study out there that has assessed success rates of polyamorous and monogamous relationships.

all species

False:

"Some avians such as swans, bald eagles, California condors, and the Atlantic Puffin are not only monogamous, but also form lifelong pair bonds." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pair_bond

Showering is So Fancy

Who told you that? They're off their rocker.

from twenty more years of the same bullying and abuse.

So is it your parents? Can you move out?

Is it possible? I wanna be able to read walls of text straight from there, Reddit-style, and not have to tap each single one to see the full thing. Old Reddit also has a one-touch context button that can display your original comment (if the inbox content is a child comment) right there without leaving the inbox.

Tap Search in the nav bar > Tap the search field

Could there be a setting added to automatically open the keyboard immediately on this first tap, which is how comment-searching already works? Search currently feels like the new/worse Play Store, which makes you have to tap the magnifying glass at the bottom, and then the text field at the top, which seems counterintuitive. Thanks!

Additionally:

  1. Open this post
  2. Do a general search, for example to try to retrieve a link from elsewhere on Lemmy to comment into this post (which means you have to back out of this post first, which is not good)
  3. Try to return to this post

I have to manually look for it again the way I found it the first time instead of just being able to press Back or any faster way to return to it.

~~There is no localized view history or something like that.~~ The way other apps do it is by allowing the general search to be accessible from a side pane or 3-dot menu at all times.

Update: Okay, I found History. Wow, the settings are deep!

I started with SYSK, too! Then I found ZOE Science & Nutrition and, man, their ep on seed oils will make you want to drink a spoonful of pure EVOO nightly, hahaha. I also added TED Talks Daily and some other stuff.

Portal 2 was way better than Portal, which felt like mostly a really extended tech demo or proof-of-concept. Portal 2 felt like an actual, full, fleshed-out game.

Best water filter? (self.buyitforlife)

I'm leaning towards Amwater, but am not sure.

Does your family know? (self.exchristian)

If so, how did they take it (I'm guessing "not well"), and where do things stand now?

I thrived on daily reading of a few multireddits, which are specific clusters of the same subreddits, as my default view; I only went to the general feed for all of my subscribed communities every once in a while.

For example: https://old.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow+LifeProTips+dataisbeautiful

Is this possible on Lemmy?

Apparently, my phone (which is an intermediary across PCs) didn't sync properly and now I have a couple of sync conflicts of spreadsheets (specifically LibreOffice Calc's .ODS files). These are... kinda large tables I've got here, with multiple tabs.

Normally with .TXT files I can easily use VSCodium's file-comparison feature to instantly spot highlighted line discrepancies on both sides, but how might you resolve spreadsheet conflicts?

Is there no other way than to page down monitor-size by monitor-size in each file, Alt+Tabbing from one to the other and visually inspecting for changes every step of the way until you spot something (hopefully)? I can't think of any less-tedious way...

... apart from, hmm, I guess my own folly in not noting version changes at the top of each file. I guess I'm only used to doing that with actual code... but I may have to start doing so with all synced, regularly edited files...

Check your account; I'm not sure if this was targeted at me or if everyone got offered it, but I used the offer on Slice & Dice after weeks of repeatedly playing its demo and am loving it!

Man, I don't understand why Catfriend1 just puts a literal period or bullet point for the version notes. It always freaks me out into wondering if the account was hacked and if the app was compromised and would cause file deletion or something. This app has become too useful!

  1. Post a comment
  2. Begin editing that comment
  3. Press the pencil-icon "submit" button without actually having edited anything

Expected outcome: nothing happens to the comment
Current outcome: the comment gets a pencil mark

I don't remember how I ended up doing step 3 (I think I meant to edit yet accidentally hit the "submit" button), but that was my observation of this fringe issue, anyway.

  1. Go here https://lemmy.today/comment/14903795
  2. Hold your finger over any of that comment's links
  3. Copy the link

Expected behavior: the share panel should close

Current behavior: it doesn't, which sometimes confuses me into thinking I didn't actually tap the button
