That could be part of it, but I was thinking more in terms of sharing resources like what you linked in your other comment as well as other methods to encourage community activity.

Also technical stuff like what to be aware of regarding banner/image resolutions, language settings, handling community handoffs to other moderators, etc. Basically a mix of more specific Lemmy support and general community building/outreach discussion.

Right, I was wondering if there might be a distinct term so that it might be clearer that a private entity's action is not a violation of rights in the sense that a government action might be. Thinking mainly of why xkcd #1357 tends to come up a lot

Nice! Thanks for sharing, hadn't gone digging around for this before!

Skimmed the Github page, didn't see much mention of what you may do with it, so what are some of the things you might do with these? Put backed up ROMs on'em to use with original hardware?

What are you going to study in college? Anything that might benefit from particular specs?

Each time I've read into self-hosting it often sounds like opening stuff up to the internet adds a bunch of complexity and potential headaches, but I'm not sure how much of it is practicality vs being excessively cautious.

Disney knew they had a gap in their demographics for twenty-something dorks with disposable income.

Hey, that reminds me, did you watch Mission Hill? I'm kind of split on it, but I feel like it may fall into the too soon territory. However I could also see it having outstayed its welcome if it had been more successful.

I hate hauling a small tablet around.

Don't you mean a "phablet"? 😜 If that awful name had stuck, I wonder if it might have dissuaded the device enlargement.

What small animal do you think might be able to pilot it upon completion?

what about Bolly Bend Benches?

While I don't disagree with most of what you mention, I do have to ask on a couple points...Isn't it probably significantly more expensive for them to make foldable screens than to make a smaller phone? Also wouldn't a larger device mean more materials involved which may mean similar or just as high costs as to engineer something more compact?

Also these are open questions, I'm not expecting you personally to know one way or another, your comment simply inspired them. If someone else has some insight on them, would be interested to read it!

I think it’s because nobody really wants to be the first to comment and offer an opinion that might end up going against the grain when a thread develops. There’s no ‘reading the room’ as it were.

Why offer an opinion when one can ask something about the post instead?

Suppose the internet was still a major success and was sustainable without compromising for commercial interests. How do you think societies around the world may have changed, or not?

Consider the optimistic angles of such an unencumbered space extended out from the internet's earlier days to the present. What if some of those possibilities had been realized?

Theme parks are pretty wicked, so I'm wondering if you had your choice of theme and a ridiculous budget to work with, what kind of theme park would you love to build?

Calibre is great for managing an ebook library, and okay for reading ebooks but the reader is clearly not its primary focus, so I'm wondering what readers folks here use across platforms.

I know of a few, but I'm always on the lookout for different options that may have features I didn't realize I'd love to use.

Do you cave and use both hands? Do you take the chance and try to use them one-handed when more actively using them? Or do you ultimately submit and get an accessory to kinda help, at least with keeping a hold of them?

Edit:

a few other answers:just use both hands, get an accessory, and/or balance on pinky and develop the toughest pinky imaginable
spoiler bonus: find some smol phone you like and savor it for as long as it works :::

I enjoy challenging myself sometimes to try and read or follow other media in other languages besides English, and although I could skim over bestselling or top/best of lists in other languages, if those are anything like their English contemporaries, I imagine odds are they don't catch some of the lesser known yet still enjoyable works.

So, what are some works in your native language that haven't been translated to English that you'd recommend? Also if it's not clear by the title, could you mention the language it's in?

Visual art, music, poetry, stories, whatever you've made that you were content with and have continued to like after completing it.

It feels like the universe wants to eat them before I can, sometimes...

And do you savor the pasta you copy, or simply copy and indulge?

There seem to be plentiful options for text chat servers, so I'm curious for those that self-host their own, what their preferences & experiences have been with them.

Also those mentioned in the title were just a few examples, if you run something else, e.g. Revolt or Mattermost or something else less popular, would be interested in reading about it!

From what I gather, I don't know that there's a new norm in this regard yet, besides recognizing that gifs are increasingly old & clunky (despite being fun & amusing), and so I don't know if mp4s or webms or something else might be better if wanting to keep a site lightweight while still having some animated elements.

Bars are notable for staying open late, but I'm not really familiar with alternatives that might operate similarly. I think many cafés (at least around my area) tend to close a few hours earlier by comparison, which would be my go-to for an alternative otherwise, so what other options are there?

I've looked through some of the web UIs and apps and found that I could hide NSFW posts without signing in, but so far I haven't found one that allows for hiding bot posts. Is that not possible at the moment?

I still haven't decided which UI or app to settle on, hence not signing in, and it's kind of revealing how many bot posts there are when viewing some Lemmy instances this way. 😅
