And they move??? ๐Ÿคฏ

I like parts of this story. I think it's funny and great that this ragtag group of Japanese misfit game dev amateurs stumbled onto a huge hit by cobbling together a bunch of game design ideas from different popular games from the past decade and sprinkling Pokemon on top of them. This hacked together Frankenstein of a meme game has probably outsold FFXVI by now michael-laugh

Apparently the CEO couldn't get hired by big Japanese studios, then found out Steam would let anyone sell games on there

I also like that their character designer is some high school dropout who they found working at a 7/11 near their office

On the other hand, from the CEO's NFT and AI tweets and his own admission that he's more interested in chasing trends than innovative, boundary-pushing game design he kind of seems like an opportunistic rise and grind dipshit

They're a Japanese company that's used to closed console ecosystems. I think they just legitimately hate the idea of a bunch of unwashed randos getting their grubby hands all over their code, especially when it has the potential of eating into their DLC profits. Why would a PC gamer buy red orbs in DMC5 with real fucking money when they could just use CheatEngine, or pay to edit their character in one of the Monster Hunter games when they could just get a mod to do that? I believe things like the nude Chun Li tournament thing or modders making Patreon bank from porn mods for the new RE games also get on their nerves, but it's mostly about protecting their bottom line

Apparently Capcom sees PC as a big focus now, and as could be seen from that presentation they did last year they have a major bug up their ass about piracy and cheating that are endemic to the platform and are seeking ways to mitigate them as much as possible.

I assume all this looks very decisive and proactive to some fossilised Capcom higher-up somewhere

I decided to try XEMU again on the latest version and it's almost there on both games. The gameplay is smooth with no visible graphical glitches and I could even bump the internal resolution to 3x with no discernible effect on framerate.

Here's what they look like running ideally:

DOA3

DOA2 Ultimate

Unfortunately certain 2D particle, screen and stage effects completely tank the framerate and so do big sweeping camera angle changes during replays and story mode cutscenes.

Here's what that looks and sounds like

Still pretty impressive. You also weren't kidding about it being DOA2 in the DOA3 engine, they look and play the same and have the exact same main menu

Didn't check the settings in DOA1 but the age meter was definitely in the PS2 version of Dead Or Alive 2. I think it was just a bounce strength slider with a weird name. It maxed out at 99 chomsky-yes-honey

I played a ton of DOA3 with friends and siblings on the original Xbox but never had DOA2 Ultimate. We assumed it wouldn't have had the new characters from DOA3 so we just kept playing DOA3 instead. I actually downloaded roms of both DOA3 and DOA2U a while back and tried them out with Cxbx-Reloaded and Xemu but sadly the emulation wasn't quite there yet, at least on my machine.

Someone somewhere is most likely already modeling 140 monster girl waifus for a mod with this exact premise

I guess I should clarify I'm not saying Pokemon made us do it, I'm sure kids have always tortured innocent creatures for funsies

Funny how quick you get used to things. SponsorBlock's been a bit spotty for me these past few days and I react with shock and disbelief when I realise the 2 minute ad read for Magic Spoon or whatever isn't gonna get skipped

As six year olds me and my friends made the cool bugs we found fight each other to the death and pretended it was pokemonside-eye-1

Hey, they're still making this game! I was afraid Microsoft had cancelled it. I like Indiana Jones and think it's a franchise that is both ripe for video game adaptations and that those are realistically the only way to continue it post Last Crusade

[โ€“] [email protected] 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't think so. The game looks like it has more naughty schoolboy energy than 4chan school shooter energy

Hard to imagine future Remedy games without James McCaffrey in some sort of role kitty-birthday-sad

*This may not be true for you due to several factors such as your geographical location

"Apple & ginger" "Spicy apple"

Why would you try to emulate traditional hot winter drinks in the medium of soda, which is always served cold? That's just a fundamental disconnect right there

I started getting the dreaded anti-adblock pop-ups on Youtube when they started ramping up their efforts a month or so back, and I initially went through the whole rigamarole: First it was just the pop-up, then it was the pop-up with the timer, then the 3-video countdown finally leading to the video player being disabled outright.

Throughout all of this I did the recommended Purging All Caches -> Update Now routine on the Ublock Dashboard at least once a day to keep the pop-ups away, but when it got to the player getting blocked it didn't seem to work anymore. Since I'm on Firefox, I experimented using Containers and found that I could just log in to my YT account on a different container to keep using Youtube until that container started getting blocked.

In the past few weeks I've noticed no issues though apart from having the video player blocked once, which was fixed by purging all caches and updating and I almost forgot about the whole anti-adblock thing altogether. It does seem like YT pages are loading slightly slower than they used to though.

Are you still having issues with Ublock on Youtube or were you even affected at all?

It's red instead of yellow (though the backgrounds also change colour now), the imp's been replaced by Yahtzee's dog and Yahtzee's avatar now looks kinda like Terry Pratchett

Also he mostly liked Alan Wake 2 and recommends it

I swear when I first encountered their products a few years back they were called something like "Glorious PC Gaming Race", possibly because they didn't want to get sued by Yahtzee and possibly because someone informed them the words MASTER RACE could raise a few eyebrows. Now they seem to be just "Glorious", but their logo still has the hair from the Zero Punctuation character:

I'd point out Yahtzee coined the term satirically to take the piss out of PC gaming elitists but if you're comfortable embracing the words MASTER RACE not being able to recognise being the butt of the joke is probably the least of your problems

You write articles for what I assume isn't that great of a pay and most people are just going to watch some guy like Yong Yea skim through them on Youtube for 100 000+ views

Well, it certainly looks like MGS3 in a modern game engine. Don't really have any complaints about how it looks, but I'm really curious to see some character models. MGS3 had that 3D anime look going for it and it'll be interesting how they will tackle the faces.

I would assume it would be like most modern games with digitally scanned actors but I don't know, Snake's looking like classic Snake from what we see of him here which I'm fine with.

From the MGS subreddit

Here is a list of issues:

  • No display settings whatsoever, all games default to fullscreen on your primary monitor.
  • MGS1's internal resolution is 240p in a 1080p viewport with bilinear filtering. No way to change that.
  • MGS2 and MGS3 are locked to 720p internal resolution. Important Edit: There's a resolution mod available for MGS3. Get it here. It technically also works for MGS2 but it creates bugs for UI and post processing effects. Check this for more info. If modders got it working in one day, ask yourself how much effort did Konami need to put in this to get it working for launch. And they didn't do it. Apparently, if you play the games on windowed mode (Alt-Enter) on high refresh rate monitors, the games run at speeds higher than 60fps, which makes them unplayable (everything moves at double speed). Edit: Some people seem to be getting it this in fullscreen as well, unclear what causes it.
  • On MGS2, the only way to leave the game is to die on purpose to get back to the main menu, as far as I know.
  • Currently the Language Packs have no store page, so they can't be downloaded without using SteamDB.
  • Apparently, Cloud Saves are not supported, for whatever reason. Edit: Cloud Saves have been added to MGS1 and the Bonus Content. MGS2, MGS3 and MG1/2 are still missing it.
  • Keyboard key binds can't be changed.
  • Button settings on MGS2 and 3 don't save, you have to set it every time. But MGS1 identifies my controller automatically.
  • MGS2 and 3 use X/A to confirm and Circle/B to cancel, but MGS1 uses the opposite.
  • MGS3 supports mouse but has no support for raw input, it only emulates the right analog stick.

Edit: More issues:

  • Audio on MGS2 and 3 is very loud and there are no in-game volume settings.
  • MGS2 has an audio problem on a couple of cutscenes. Check this for more info Edit: Happens on MGS3 as well.
  • Some people can't start the games at all.

This is a bit sad considering how great Ground Zeroes' and Phantom Pain's PC versions were

Why wouldn't you instead just run it in Duckstation where you can bump up the resolution, fix wobbly polygons, etc (???)

What sort of freak wants to besmirch their eyes with blurry original PS1 graphics? I lived through the PS1 era and you couldn't make me go back after decades of playing the games emulated

In the manga, Kuina was afraid that the male students would soon overtake her in size and strength and that she'd be at a permanent disadvantage because of her gender, but the actors they cast were 15-16 years old and teen Zoro was already at least a head taller than her where it was the opposite in the manga with Kuina being older and bigger than little kid Zoro. Like yeah, that already happened, and you still beat Zoro in the duel regardless. Not that size would even matter in the One Piece world where regular humans can be like 15 feet tall for no reason, but this was in the first volume of the manga and the look and feel of the world hadn't solidified yet.

I totally get why they cast older actors who were presumably also martial artists- there was no way they were filming a 9-year-old and a 12-year-old dueling with full-sized katanas. I just think they should've rewritten the story to fit those older actors better.

I also couldn't help but notice that all the flashback scenes took place at a forest/park in daylight, presumably because wherever they were filming did not have a Japanese dojo or temple available. It just makes the scenes look noticeably bland and cheap in a show with otherwise excellent set design and lighting.

It was also paced worse than the manga where it goes straight from Kuina and Zoro making their promise to keep training to voices yelling about Kuina having died after falling down the stairs, and then showing her dead body at her wake and kid Zoro ragecrying while holding her sword. The abruptness and bluntness of her death is what gave the flashback its emotional punch but they drag things out over several kinda slow scenes spliced throughout the fourth episode.

A bit disappointed since I thought they really nailed Luffy's origin and it being revealed slowly over the first two episodes worked out great. Here's hoping they got the heartstring puller that is Sanji's origin right

I've posted about this before but it continues to fascinate me. I'm also not talking about the more obviously fucked up topic of the sexualising of teenage girls in Japanese media, but what constitutes an "older" person over there.

I'm currently watching the Netflix adaptation of One Piece, and saw some Japanese discussion about the show's portrayal of Shanks and the actor playing him, who looks like this on the show:

There were comments saying that he "looks too much like a man past his prime" but also comments like "I like seeing attractive older men in media" and I'm just confused since he looks like a perfectly normal handsome actor man. They talked about him like Western social media talked about a 65-year-old Jeff Goldblum

I guess you turn into an ossan immediately after your 25th birthday
