I don't have an issue with new slang, I do have an issue with people modifying the way they speak and write because of corporate content moderation and internalising those restrictions
I mean, I have been saying "lol" out loud in real life for the majority of my life
I don't think that was motivated by automated content moderation though
I just find it incredibly depressing there's a generation growing up whose vocabulary is being directly influenced by Google's bots
It's just so fucking grim. In 10 years everyone is going to talk like they're trying to trick ChatGPT into saying something naughty
It's like if you took the World of Warcraft "fantasy races based on lazy ethnic stereotypes" thing but forgot to make them blue trolls or pandas to obfuscate the racism. On the other hand, I guess it's about what I would expect from fucking Conan, a pulpy property that began in 1932
What was up with 90s Cartoon Network and queer devil characters? You had Him from Powerpuff Girls and (less overtly) Red Guy from Cow and Chicken (who's buttcheeks were always out, but that was like half the characters on that show)
Glowing lettering makes it easier to pick out an obscure symbol you barely use on your keyboard
I don't get why seemingly every one of these media outlets that are formed by people who got fired from some failing company reference that fact in their names
Ahem: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninjat%C5%8D
Anybody who's somebody knows that ninja swords are straight and have square tsubas. Here is HISTORICAL NINJA, Rikimaru from the Tenchu video game series with his ninjatō:
Just ignore this bit please:
Historically, there is no physical evidence for the existence of this "katana-like short sword legendarily used by ninja" before the 20th century,[13] though it is believed that the designs demonstrated by alleged replicas are based on the design of wakizashi or chokutō swords or the swords associated with ashigaru.[1]
They'll rename them hero swords
I'm not saying using colourful euphemisms for death isn't funny, I love wordplay. It's just depressing when people start doing it subconsciously because of shitty algorithms that don't even work because people will indeed just sidestep them by being creative
