That instance might not be set up to federate with others. At the bottom of here (on web at least) you can see an instances button that if clicked shows a list of linked instances. When I look at that instance I don't see that button

I would expect this to find the [email protected] , going to the link https://programming.dev/c/[email protected] gives a 404. And lemmy.world is federated according to the instances link in the footer. So there seems to be something wrong with the federation.

instances need to be cached first before you can navigate to them or else it throws 404s. To force it to cache you can go to the search bar and type [email protected]. You wont get any results but now you should be able to navigate to it

Thanks for the workaround. I still assume that this is still an issue since that requires a user to know about the community. So, browsing and searching for a community to discover it will not work. But, this solved my immediate issue.

Yeah its a bit of a pain to look for things sometimes if someone hasnt already followed it. There is a website that allows you to search for most communities though http://browse.feddit.de/ (I say most as it sometimes misses brand new ones)
