Years have gone by and hundreds of comments have been written about the proposal, but the main screen still looks like this:

What do you guys think is the cause of this stagnation? Too much discussion? Too few people willing to fork it?

I've thought about it myself and why I didn't contribute a new main menu and came to the following conclusion: It requires understanding Minetest's codebase and the libraries it uses, it requires C++ experience (which I don't have), and after all that effort there's zero guarantee that it ever gets used.

Just saw the discussion around the Haier Home Assistant takedown and thought it would be good to materialize the metaphorical blacklist.

Thankfully I don't use any of their products, but this really pisses me off. They claim that this open source project "causes significant economic harm to their company"

This is ridiculous. It is truly ridiculous. How can something that enables the user to efficiently control their AC cause "significant economic harm"???

Consider forking the repository or mirroring it to another platform like GitLab, Codeberg or your self-hosted Git server, so the project can continue to exist and someone can maybe fork it and maintain it.

If you don't know about Home Assistant, check it out. It's an amazing piece of open-source software, that you can run at home on your own server and use it to control your smart home devices. That way, you don't need to connect them to the manufacturer's (probably insecure) cloud. It gives you sovereignty over your smart home instead of some proprietary vendor-locked garbage. As Rossmann said, don't ever buy anything from such a shitty company that doesn't respect their customers. This move by Haier is nothing other than a slap in the face for everyone, who just wants to comfortably control the product they paid for. This company is actively hostile towards their paying customers. Fuck these bastards!

A bit hyperbole headline, but good to hear that GNU Taler got some NGI funding.

I guess I'm becoming a dinosaur, and now I don't know where to find out about new FOSS stuff being developed, when new releases are out, etc.

I used to get it all on USENET and mailing lists, and then later on sourceforge.net and freshmeat.net. Now I track some things on https://freshcode.club/, but I don't see much that's 'fresh'. Maybe new updates, but not too many new packages. sourceforge still exists, but it doesn't seem current.

If I know about a project I'll follow it on GitHub, but I'm looking for a place to find out about new things that I didn't know I wanted yet.

tl;dr: Where can I watch to see promising new FOSS software projects?

So I have a TrueNAS server set up at home, and it would be cool to have access to it at all times. I currently have Syncthing set up to access and back up my most essential files on my phone and laptop, but it would be nice to be able to access all the ... legally obtained files I have stored there wherever I go. I looked into Nextcloud, but that requires paying for a domain. So are there any other options for this?

Do you know of any online solutions for creating forms (open-source if possible) that have an API for generating unique links to the same form? @opensource

Which one u will consider using out of two (or any other) for a nextcloud server?? I want to sync calendar,contact etc using davx and thunderbird.

Perens says there are several pressing problems that the open source community needs to address.

"First of all, our licenses aren't working anymore," he said. "We've had enough time that businesses have found all of the loopholes and thus we need to do something new. The GPL is not acting the way the GPL should have done when one-third of all paid-for Linux systems are sold with a GPL circumvention. That's RHEL."

Another straw burdening the Open Source camel, Perens writes, "is that Open Source has completely failed to serve the common person. For the most part, if they use us at all they do so through a proprietary software company's systems, like Apple iOS or Google Android, both of which use Open Source for infrastructure but the apps are mostly proprietary. The common person doesn't know about Open Source, they don't know about the freedoms we promote which are increasingly in their interest. Indeed, Open Source is used today to surveil and even oppress them."

Post-Open, as he describes it, is a bit more involved than Open Source. It would define the corporate relationship with developers to ensure companies paid a fair amount for the benefits they receive. It would remain free for individuals and non-profit, and would entail just one license.

Whether it can or not, Perens argues that the GPL isn't enough. "The GPL is designed not as a contract but as a license. What Richard Stallman was thinking was he didn't want to take away anyone's rights. He only wanted to grant rights. So it's not a contract. It's a license. Well, we can't do that anymore. We need enforceable contract terms."

The most important thing is that, that developers argue with F-Droid community, their own community, and closing everything that related this idea.

Further if this technology is open-sourced; can it be extended for use cases beyond that(Dual Motherboards sharing Compute power with low latency for working on a single process?); I know such solutions probably exist for servers and enterprises but i am talking about amateurs who don't have 10K lying around for specialty hardware: If possible this seems like a low cost solution to mess around with
