Welcome to this week’s casual kōrero thread!

This post will be pinned in this community so you can always find it, and will stay for about a week until replaced by the next one.

It’s for talking about anything that might not justify a full post. For example:

  • Something interesting that happened to you
  • Something humourous that happened to you
  • Something frustrating that happened to you
  • A quick question
  • A request for recommendations
  • Pictures of your pet
  • A picture of a cloud that kind of looks like an elephant
  • Anything else, there are no rules (except the rule)

So how’s it going?

Despite New Zealand’s image as a global leader in environmental stewardship and animal welfare, mud farming paints a far bleaker reality – one rooted in cruelty, neglect, and environmental disregard.

Then it's not a $40/hr job!

Careers NZ says there is a shortage of plumbers and those who are experienced can earn more than $53 an hour.

Right there, the final paragraph of the article.

Pretty happy with our choice to move here 6+ years ago. For all the shit it gets, Hamilton is a pretty nice place to live. I think it's only going to get busier in the coming years, especially once projects like the Ruakura Super Hub gets completed.

"Drivers who take medicinal cannabis for cancer or mental health or pain relief, are not willing to put themselves in a position where they are potentially going to be prosecuted for driving while taking a medication that is prescribed," she said.

"These people are often very conscious of not driving when they feel impaired by their substance but the legislation as it stands, it doesn't matter if you are impaired or not, it's only if the substance is in your system.

  • There are 190 more people on the National Gang List and 80 fewer police officers on the streets than in November 2023 when Labour was in government.
  • Police Minister Mark Mitchell says the National-led government is seeing success and there are many police officers in training to come through, but there is "a lot more to do".
  • Former police officer Lance Burdett says the gang patch ban will have the opposite of the intended effect, forcing criminals underground.

I'd love to know what everyone else thinks about this. Having somewhere you can get food that is open 24/7 would be very useful, but I can see why the locals wouldn't be happy about it. A McDonald's wouldn't really suit the area.

I admit I’m not sure what the typical charges are for possessing 37g of meth, but this seems incredibly low.

How do you feel about Prime Minister Luxon using a back entrance to avoid protesters? Was this a practical decision for safety, or does it suggest a lack of courage in leadership?"

...more or less.

For anyone wondering how it he’s going.

Dunedin Airport CEO Daniel De Bono weighed in on the topic in an interview with New Zealand’s RNZ radio. Describing airports as “hotbeds of emotion,” he pointed to a study suggesting a 20-second hug is enough to get a burst of the “love hormone” oxytocin and argued that moving customers along quickly allows more people to get more hugs.

This is the thin end of the wedge. Whichever racist PoS manager at TWO whom sent this is simply emboldened by our current racist PoS government. It gets worse from here.

Objectively, even to the stupidst person, that a distressed patient and stressed nurse will be most effective when using a shared native language in interactions with the patient.

Communication with the rest of the staff obviously should be in the common language.

It's extra stupid because while we can assume a nurse has competency in English there's no guarantee the patient or patient's support does.

A member of the Indian Business Association, who did not want to be named, told RNZ about an incident at his Auckland petrol station, in which he tried to stop a customer driving away without paying.

He had opened the passenger side door and was confronted with a gun, he said.

"He just pointed the gun toward me, and that was a shotgun," he said.

"He said 'f*** off', so I immediately hands up, and just left the car, let him go."

Absolutely poor taste, I think.

We need to start bullying Tui drinkers over their poor choice of beverage. Stuff tastes awful anyway.
