Really glad you brought the opposite perspective to the table here πŸ™ thank you!

The description for the community talks about the Blue Sky app and the AT protocol but all the posts in this community are democratic/liberal support posts. Sorry I'm #outoftheloop. I'm trying to find a Lemmy/ActivityPub community for updates on BueSky and the AT protocol.

It should be interesting to see how it plays out, indeed.

I don't expect the US will entirely ban all forms of content moderation. I wouldn't be surprised if the US moved more in the direction of the EU Digital Services Act: required transparency on recommendation algorithms and some sort of NGO trusted flagger system.

Also, similar (but opposite) to Splinternet: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels_effect

Some things I'm proud of:

  • The citizens that volunteer their time to defend the potential of others in their communities. E.g. youth development, homeless assistance.
  • The common principles the nation is built on (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness) and bind us together. Today, it seems the many ways those principles are interpreted has splintered society. However, in my experience, most Americans feel strongly about those principles, and they can be used as a basis for relationships across many unlikely social groups.

I think it's easiest to be proud of your country and fellow citizens when you start interacting meaningful with your neighbors with an open mindset, regardless of their world view.

I also use Kobo. It's really easy to download on Kobo (then remove DRM if that's your vibe).

I'm planning on buying a pocketbook soon!!! I've been trying to get a sense of what the PocketBook interface is like on the device but haven't found anything online. You don't have a picture of the home / library page do you? Also, can you disable discover / suggestions on the PocketBook?

What do you mean? The guide OP mentioned has instructions for MacOS. Also, the software referenced (Calibre and DeDRM plugin) are available on Linux systems as well.

To add to this:

It's also owned and operator by a non-profit in the United States (unlike Telegram and Whatsapp which are operated from the UAE and a for-profit company respectively).
