No, we are being forced into it because we live in a technobro world where it is imperative we shove whatever buzzword is trendy at the moment into every part of our lives (aka solutions in search of a problem). Criminals are going to keep doing crime, mass surveillance or not.
Just you wait for AI powered laundromats.
