Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Poob had announced they will be renamed to Boop later this year following the arrest of the executives.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you rotate it around the center of the word you can also get qood. Plenty of post c-suite arrest rebranding to be had

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago

Which opens boop up to have another post-scandal life with dooq

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Will Poobies still be active? I have three Shmorks at home that would be devastated to see it go.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, it will be rebranded to Boopies Max

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

But the lifetime subscription to Boopies will be invalid and you need to upgrade to the new Boopies Max subscription.

You lost me at executives being arrested

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So the show does have seasons 1 and 3 on Ceef, but season 2 cannot be found anywhere because of issues with the licensing of the theme music of that season.

[–] kogasa 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Seasons 1 and 3 are also missing 1 or 2 episodes each because a guest star's royalty agreement renegotiation fell through

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And then there's that one episode that's now considered problematic.

Hey, I love Community

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago (3 children)

fill me in. what's this about?

[–] [email protected] 58 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The stupid name of streaming service and the exclusive right of streaming pile of shit if i'm not wrong.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

this comment only confuses me more

but why are poob executives getting arrested? does it stand for some high seas website? are they based out of an authoritarian country? is this just being silly?

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago

It's just one big meme, the names are all made up and likely don't reference any specific events.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

The first part is making fun of the abundance of competing streaming services with silly names. The second part highlites that despite their big numbers, they all still fucking suck and it's nigh impossible to legally watch shows anymore

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

I took it as the streaming services popping up and going down faster than drug dealers and piracy sites, as if the FBI is always hot on their tail. And the licenses being passed around like they're a smuggling ring for exotic animals.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago

It's making fun of the weird streaming platform names like Hulu, Tubi, Mubi, Shudder, Acorn TV, Hayu, Crackle, Xumo, Pluto TV.
And the confusing world of where your favorite shows are streaming from.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Finding a place to legally watch a specific TV show has become very frustrating. Been through this with several shows. I no longer use any streaming services but it can be nearly impossible to find some shows, particularly ones that were released pre-streaming era.

I reflect on the 8-bit guy's statement when it comes to digital products:

"When [copyright holder] is unwilling to make product available for sale, I don't shed too many tears when people pirate the material."

The best subscription service is a no-logs VPN.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

legally

Well there's your problem!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Illegally is near impossible too if it's something that isn't English language and isn't anime. If this is a skill issue lmk.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i was using this russian movie-web host that had an insane amount of non-english content. there were also loads of dubs for almost everything. some english shows would default to spanish or russian, but the original audio was always available too.

everything was so easy, i miss it dearly :c

ps: there’s a russian dub of shameless and the VAs are surprisingly spot on

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I will say, Russia and Brazil seem to be the kings of having these archives - as a dual Spanish and English native speaker, I kind of wish something similar was happening for us lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That's a skill issue if you are only using clearweb searches - most of the good stuff is found in forums, archives that aren't indexed by common search engines (Anna's archive for books for instance), and user groups.

If you're looking for something niche, you're probably best checking using a search engine that isn't google, and getting familiar with VPNs, torrenting, TOR and checking the files you download.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do all of that, except TOR.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Huh. What language are you having trouble with, if you dont mind me asking?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Shleeb got bought by Moogle

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

some of Shleeb’s backcatalogue is up on Flixto, but you have to VPN to Croatia

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

They actually patched that; you can't use a VPN anymore. I recommend watching it on Yoink.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago

Its actually 'WTF Poob' again, they changed it recently.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Well, not anymore. Now it's on Shoom, except for season 5.

Torrentio: 'you guys pay monthly fees for that?'

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Stremio + Torrentio, a media-lover's best friend. Cancel everything and just toss this app on your TV/tablet/phone. Everything is on there.

(Also, if you don't mind paying ~$2.75/mo USD, you can add a Debrid service to the mix and get direct downloads too, that way you can start streaming instantly instead of waiting for seeds. Plus it saves you from having to get a VPN if you have an ISP that monitors file sharing llke most people in the US and Europe.)

It's "Ploob"
