Recently I maxed out my "Watch Later" playlist on YouTube. Turns out you can't have more than 5000 videos in it

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fun fact, you can also max out your number of subscriptions! Don't ask me how I know...

it would put too much load on their servers if you could poll a million different channels for new videos at once

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

they said how, as in how where you able to do that, it seems impossible to me!

You answered to a why, why would youtube put a limit.

@martineski clarified it.

[–] JackbyDev 1 points 1 year ago

Like they ever poll your subscriptions lol.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hm? I don't understand that response.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

when you open the subscriptions page Youtube has to ask its servers for new videos from all of the people you subscribe to. So getting that list could become expensive for them if you were able to have an unlimited number of subscibed channels

I am filling up "Watch Later 4" right now...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Nice, I'm on my "Watched 3" playlist so I stop rewatching things and only realizing halfway through.

Ah fuck, that's me. Here's a transit app severely underestimating my walking speed the other day (that's a meter, not a mile)

Neat

You guys are giving me anxiety.

Quite a few good follow-on jokes in this thread, but the frequent screenshotting behavior begins to acknowledge something we can leverage into a powerful tool for learning.

All one needs to do is complete the last steps in what is the beginning of a Zettelkasten system, the first step having been collecting the information (the screenshot).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Firefox has this android app called screenshot go, that automatically reads all the text in all your screen shots and makes them searchable.

Something like that for desktop would be cool. Especially if it could be done in an open standard that makes well with others.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Evernote had that for a long while, but as I understand it they’re moving to a new revenue model and lots of people are unhappy.

There might be a plug-in for Obsidian.md which provided a great Zettelkasten environment.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

In a few years I will have an ai that will do that for me so there's zero need for me to do anything about that. hehe

The things you own, end up owning you.

Delete it all and accept the transitory nature of existence.

I'm an amateur data hoarder and what you just said is blasphemy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Pop it all on one harddrive/server, then it's just one click or key to be free of it all.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I will be soon building a file server where I will be using raid (idk which one yet) to prevent losing files in case of disk failure. I will also be using a disconnected from the system few TB hard drive to make sure I don't lose my data in case the system goes wild and deletes everything.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't forget about off-site backups!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I'm thinking of just moving my hard drive to a building next door when I don't use because fuck cloud.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I created my first email account in 1999, and it's the one I use for just about everything to this day. A couple of weeks ago I got fed up with constantly reorganising it. No number of rules or folders really solved the problem. There was just too much shit in there, and I have too much shit in my brain as it is. I deleted all of it. Saw a few flashes of emails to my childhood friends, from my first girlfriend, deceased family members. For a split second I thought "shit, no, these are my memories". But no. Not anymore they aren't. You're free.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

That's a morbid take, but I agree.

I don't usually delete stuff on purpose, but I am not as diligent as I "should" be about backing all my data. Sure, I back up the most important things, but the rest of it I won't really miss if it gets deleted.

For example my Bookmarks/Saved Posts/Watch Later/Read It Later lists, they sometimes get deleted when I move devices and I don't bother restoring them even when I can. Most of the things I add to those lists I know I am never going to read/watch. I add them anyway just to be safe, but I don't feel bad if I don't ever get to them. There's only so much time in this world.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

At least in Starfield, I do get to see them again when the game uses them as a load screen. Which makes me wonder if I can throw any old picture in the folder it saves those in and have all sorts of possible load screen images... 🤔

Me accidentally trying to turn down the volume on my android but taking a screenshot instead

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

You can change in the settings how screenshots are taken to hopefully something more comfortable.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

of course it was a 4D chess move to train an AI to generate personalized dank memes all along

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

This... Is something I need to remember because the idea sounds awesome af.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lol, those are rookie numbers, I have around 350.000 screenshots from all the time I've been using smartphones and I still keep taking screenshots. I don't exactly plan on checking them, they're just like a calendar/journal of my digital life, but with images.🙂

[–] JackbyDev 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think that's a beautiful way of thinking about it. One of my favorite "on this day" posts on Facebook was a random screenshot I took of something in college. I didn't crop it so I can see my entire bookmarks bar and a lot of other stuff. It's very nostalgic seeing it. Keep on screenshotting! Future you will thank you!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Aww

Just gotta be careful not to overdo it.. I've kinda lowered my screenshot taking rate as I have stopped using some apps.🙂

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Me downloading this meme knowing it will end up unlooked at, just like the hundreds of memes before it.

I really need to sort my "SORT ME!" folder instead of adding to it ...

Adding this to that folder.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Do you though?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Random Image+ ... on Android I'm sure there's a free app that works as well and no ads, but for a single dollar, I couldn't be bothered to go looking for that. I'm told there's equivalents on IOS
