Compare arab spring where Egypt shut down its internet and Twitter did everything it could to ensure messages got through...
To bowing down to authoritarian bullshit and locking down dissenting and potentially dissenting accounts.
You know, from the free speech absolutist.
Yeah some time ago I used to respect these companies I remember when Google condemned the Egyptian government's actions in 2011 and one of the very popular activists in the revolution was the head of marketing in Google MENA. But now the truth has never been more obvious to me. Individuals may or may not care but corporations will never care.

Serious question. Why no mention of Bluesky?
My take is that bluesky is owned by a corporation making a protocol (AT protocol) to Embrace, Extend, Extinguish.
See example, Microsoft trying to convert the internet to only run on its own browser. Or Google enticing websites to use AMP, only to entrap those sites to only use Google's ad services.
When profit drives development, enshittification is not a matter of if, but when.
How is development of ActivityPub protocol funded? Volunteers and their grants, crowdfunding, and enthusiasm, as far as I can tell. @.@ Idk if it's a reason objectively worth supporting FOSS for, but I love when people pool together for their community's greater good.
Why make a bluesky account when you have all the different platforms that already run ActivityPub? Want a youtube replacement? Peertube!

Interact with all on the same account? Sure!
But with bluesky? Nope.
Wasn't it one of Musk's stated reasons for buying twitter to prevent exactly this?
Yup. When a right-wing government asks, he complies. When a left-wing government does, he sues.
To be fair the only reason he actually went through with buying Twitter was because he was forced to.
