I am slowly getting back into reading, and as a minimalist, I dislike the idea of having (or carrying) books, aside from very special ones, of course.

Is there a nice system to organize (maybe even sync) ebook information; and I mean not only bookmarking where you left, but actually notes, highlights, etc? I'd like it to be pretty "universal", so I don't depend on propietary stuff, and I can retrieve those notes 20 years from now (why else would I want to write some notes, right?).

Also, a bit off-topic for this sub, but... how do you read? E-readers? Tablets? Software choices?

Are there any open-source spotify frontends? If there aren't, why not?

Bluetuith is a TUI based bluetooth manager for Linux, that aims to be an alternative to most bluetooth managers, and can perform bluetooth based operations like:

• Connection to and general management of bluetooth devices, with device information like battery percentage, RSSI etc. displayed, if the information is available. More detailed information about a device can be viewed by selecting the 'Info' option in the menu or by clicking the 'i' key.

• Bluetooth adapter management, with toggleable power, discoverability, pairablilty and scanning modes.

• Transfer and receive files via the OBEX protocol, with an interactive file picker to choose and select multiple files.

• Handle both PANU and DUN based networking for each bluetooth device

• Control media playback on the currently connected device, with a media player popup that displays playback information and controls.

This release contains the following new features:

• New command-line options --adapter-states to set adapter properties and --connect-bdaddr to connect to a device on initialization
• Block/unblock devices
• Indefinite passkey/pincode display
• Modifiable navigation keys
• Display the 'Bonded' property for a device

Hi, hope I can ask here. I've been using vlc for android as my music player but it really struggles after 5k local songs surprisingly so I'm looking for an alternative. The main problem I have is that after switching to the user account that has my local media, vlc refreshes and clears my playlist and I'm at the point where it's becoming a bit frustrating. I already tried the majority of music player apps on fdroid but they all have issues with the metadata (no album art, unknown genre, etc...). Any help?

Edit: If it matters for troubleshooting, I'm running grapheneos and use vlc on a seperate user profile where my local media is located.

Edit #2: Phonograph plus seems like my best option rn but feel free to give more options to help others

Looking for an alternative to Microsoft Office for the Linux.

I've already tried:

• LibreOffice (It doesn't have the same experience as Microsoft's apps.)
• OnlyOffice Desktop Editors (I like it)

What else would you recommend?

Since the integrity environment gunk, I've switched all boxes over to use Firefox as primary. This took a lot of configuring, as Firefox out of the box brings… a lot of stuff I don't want.

One of those things is telemetry — whatever that means to Mozilla — that was tamed only with a combination of an enterprise profile (hi sudo!) and user.js hacks.

However, the policy and user.js changes don't work on the Ubuntu box, where I've installed Firefox from the PPA to get it out from under Snap (and thereby usable with a password manager). The policy locks down and disables the right configs and the configs all have the right settings, but it keeps pinging incoming.telemetry.mozilla.org. Two Macs and a Pop!_OS box don't ping Mozilla at all with these settings.

No harm no foul, I just blocked them in NextDNS and laugh in their general direction. I just wonder what else is different in the PPA.

Hello guys. I hope it's okay to post a question in this community.

I'm basically looking for a Youtube and Google Drive alternative for video sharing. I've looked at Peertube, Dtube and Odyssee, but frankly, I don't like them because there is some questionable content on those sites.

That said, I don't want to get into personal views and stuff, I just want to find an alternative to Big Tech. I want to upload videos and be able to share them with friends online. 'I upload and they stream' is what I'm looking for.

Proton Drive offers video preview, but it's limited to a 100 MB file and my videos are going to be longer.

TIA for any and all suggestions.

Thanks everyone with your input. As storage, I'll be using Proton Drive, which has a 100 MB video preview limit. That means I have to decrease the file size, which can be done in different ways. First, I can shoot the video in 1080p 30 fps, which takes less space than 60 fps and/or higher video resolution. I can also decrease the video size by getting rid of sound, which I don't need. For that, I'll use either LosslessCut, which is an awesome software because you can cut and disable sound without having to re-encode the video. It literally takes seconds to output an edited video. I can also use Handbrake to decrease the quality of the video. The end result will render the video relatively low quality, so it might not be usable for you, but for me it's good enough.

Wanted to share the cool lil fitness app I've been working on for the better part of a year in the hopes somebody else finds it useful/wants to contribute.

I would like to know if there is a good open source project that let's me run a copy of a game on my phone without crashing or bugging out after a day or two, nothing on the app store works well enough. I just want to enjoy multiple accounts on an old 32bit mmorpg from 2013-2014.
