Akamai announced today they are now providing the hosting services for Kernel.org for their cloud computing needs as well as content delivery network (CDN). Akamai and the Linux Kernel / Linux Foundation have agreed to a "multi-year agreement" at "no cost" to provide the hosting needs for Kernel.org including the Git repositories of the Linux kernel itself and all the associated Git repositories hosted on Kernel.org.

Let's immediately acknowledge that the title is lighthearted, and that "communist company" is an oxymoron. The better choice would've been, "which is the most worker-owned, egalitarian, power-structures-free cooperative?", which SEO experts told me was too long of a title. With that said, let me tell you about Igalia and other tech cooperatives.

Haiku OS developer X512 has managed a rather impressive feat: porting NVIDIA's open-source kernel modules to Haiku. Not only did he get NVIDIA's official Linux kernel modules running on Haiku but he also ported the Mesa NVK Vulkan driver to be able to run atop the NVIDIA kernel driver interface.

Blitz is a new independent web engine implemented in Rust. It’s flexible low-level APIs make it suitable for a wide variety of use cases web browsers, an application runtimes, ebook rendering, email rendering, rendering HTML to image, etc. And its uniquely modular architecture allows it to share much of its code with other projects which it is hoped will lead to a more sustainable development model.

This project aims to bring Blitz “up to scratch” for the use-case of being an HTML/CSS browser (JavaScript support is not in scope). Use cases that are being targeted include: browsing wikipedia, viewing news websites, and searching using a search engine. The work to be completed includes improvements to the layout engine, implementation of form controls, adding WPT testing infrastructure, and the creation of an initial browser UI.
