The electric car manufacturer Fisker warns in its latest annual report that it may not be able to continue operations. The current resources are not sufficient to cover the next twelve months.

Specifically, 5,000 units of the E10X small electric car from JAC Yiwei are being transported to Central and South America.

The robotaxi provider chose to do this after consultation with NHTSA and its own internal review of two incidents that occurred in what it described as “a rare scenario in Phoenix on December 11, 2023, which resulted in no injuries and minor vehicle damage”.

Stellantis’ system is named Hands-Free Active Driving Assist, and it launched with the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

US-only for now, it seems.

"Volkswagen is currently in talks with the non-controlled joint venture SAIC-Volkswagen about the future direction of business activities in Xinjiang province. Different scenarios are being considered intensively," a spokesperson said when asked about the report.

Rights groups have documented abuses in Xinjiang, including the ethnic minority Uyghur population being subjected to forced labour in detention camps. Beijing denies any such abuses.

The Norwegian EV Association is confident that Norway can achieve the objective of 100 percent zero-emission car sales in 2025.

This talk will give an exhaustive overview of all the automotive hacks in the past 10 years, and analyze the technical issues and vulnerabilities that have been exploited. Ranging from the automotive hacking papers in the early 2010-ies by US researchers, towards the infamous Miller/Valasek presentations starting 2015, the magic work of KeenLabs and 360 Group, and covering comma.ai, the different Tesla hacks, entry system relay attacks and the recent ADAC study, towards AI-confusion attacks. I will try to analyze the underlying vulnerabilities, how they can be (respectively are already) prevented in modern vehicles, and what the future holds.

VW, and all European auto manufacturers, face an existential threat from China’s BEV makers. This is aimed not only at the lower end of the market, always vulnerable to cheap and cheerful foreign onslaughts, but at the top end too.
