The alien.top instance block will not be applied correctly after filter is added. I believe part of the problem is that they use a generic name, selfhosted.forum, maybe?

Edit: So, when I Block Instance through the main feed, 'alien.top' is added to the list. Manually adding 'selfhosted.forum' works and the instance is now blocked. That instance is mis-reporting its name and confused Connect.

This is a post example that still appears on my feed:

I haven't been able to find any information about this error anywhere, so I'm hoping to find some help here.

I'm using version .150
The problem persists after a phone restart.
I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that's what I'm going to try now.

*UPDATE: Nope, that didn't work.

*UPDATE #2: I got frustrated with this issue and decided to install another app instead of waiting for someone to come along with the magic answer. Welp, the issue followed me to the Thunder app. This leads me to believe that it's either an issue with my phone (possible, but I haven't changed anything on it, either shortly before, or since this problem started) or an issue with Lemmy itself (of which I know absolutely nothing about how it works internally).
I did, however, see a big block of code pop up a couple times when Connect was trying and failing to load the comments, but both times it disappeared as soon as I touched the screen. I'm not a programmer, by any stretch if the imagination, so I didn't notice if it looked weird or anything (other than appearing where it shouldn't). I'll keep poking at Connect and Thunder to see if I can get it to do it again so I can try to grab a screenshot.

UPDATE #3: I was able to get the block of code to pop up again. This time it stuck around and, even though it wouldn't let me select and copy the text, let me take pictures. It's a pretty long chunk of (what I'm guessing is) HTML, which starts with "Error: < ! DOCTYPE html >"(minus some spaces) I took screenshots of the whole thing, but it's like 60 screens long so, I can edit the pics into one and post it if that helps, but it will take me a while.

UPDATE 4: This only seems to happen when I'm logged in. If I'm logged out while using the apps, I can still see the comments.

I'm not the developer, but just noticed that Lemmy Connect 1.0.152 was available on the Play Store Beta Channel. Thank you @kuro for your continued support.

Fixed

  • Fixed voting on posts refreshing the video player
  • Fixed some issues with image heights not fitting correctly

as title says, I can't download any image in the app. When I open one and hit Download in the menu, nothing happens. I checked all my folders and the images are never saved. Anybody else with this problem?

edit: running the MIUI global on a xiaomi note 5

I'm looking to switch devices soon and backup/restore my Connect settings.

Is this possible in the current version or would this be considered for future implementation?

As the title says, I'd like Connect to not automatically load videos while I'm browsing without WiFi to conserve my monthly mobile data a bit better.

Recently had some people tell me that connect isn't collapsing cross-posts so when a post is posted to multiple communities at the same time it floods the feed

The behaviour that occurs in lemmy-ui is it checks for posts with the same url in the ones its showing the user and removes any duplicates, only keeping the oldest one (and showing links to the rest in a cross-posted to section)

This helps especially in instances that recommend cross-posting since topics overlay between multiple communities

Should be relatively easy to implement since its just comparing the url values of the posts you already have

Basically I'm really missing the edit post option it was available on my previous client (voyager) so I think it's possible.

Right now I make posts and realise in my probably drunken state I've made a spelling mistake and my only option is to delete the post at the point the app kicks me out of the thread and the post seems to be blocked from ever finding it again.

The edit button would let me fix my idiotic errors and not get kicked from the post I was actually trying to reply to.

Also I don't get why connect kicks you from the thread just because you delete a post and why it's impossible to find that post again that doesn't make any sense to me.

Been using Connect for months, great app! I am in Beta program. Last few hours I am unable to access my main instance (lemmy.sdf.org) using my main account with it, I get error

Error An error occurred when retrieving from Lemmy. sdf.org. Details: type 'Null' is not a subtype of type 'bool' in type cast

I am able to access this using desktop browser. I am able to access alt accounts on other instances using Connect.

How to fix this?

Edit

As some commenters here have pointed out this is due to SDF upgrading their server to version 0.19 which isn't ready and breaks app support- see

As the title says when you upvote a post and then click the bookmark the upvote clears but if you bookmark and then upvote it works fine.

Periodically I have a stretch of these errors. Once post loads and I can even see comments, my screen gets completely blocked by this error. If it starts to appear, every other post is affected too.

I assume it can be my home instance since changing it helps. Either way, it would be better if this message shortly appeared in the bottom as a pop up (as some other errors) so I can at least read posts and comments if they are already loaded. For now, app would return to feed just as usual if the back button is pressed, and it also prompts me to 'refresh', meaning completely refreshing the feed and losing the place I've being at.

I've updated the client and cleared cache with no change. What makes me believe it's on instance - I haven't changed my routine at all while it started to appear a couple of days ago, and now I post from alt because I couldn't do it even via browser, although posts load. Maybe they pushed some update or just down? Anyway, I'd ask you to minimize the error message if it's possible, please.

Thank you for your continuous support of this app.

Pretty much title. Sometimes I want to see new content, sometimes I want to go back and look at old content. It's a little exhausting having to jump into settings to hit that toggle, and it would be really cool if we could switch it from the top bar or in the three-dot menu in the top bar

Just saw this update in the Play Store. Thank you for coming back to continue updates. Connect is still my preferred Lemmy app.

What's New:

Fixed

  • Upgraded various libraries
  • Fixed an issue with thumbnails apppearing blurry
  • Fixed a bug where links without any protocol prefix would crash
  • Increased the cache size from 100 objects to 200

Does anyone else experience this? When I upvote a post and then bookmark it, the upvote disappears. I then have to redo the upvote.

It seems like all the other markdown stuff works, but we're missing ^superscript^ and ~subscript~ in connect. As a frequent user of footnotes,^1^ I would greatly appreciate support for these tags.

^1^ Great for citations, explanations, or really stupid tangents

@[email protected] have you ever thought about making the app open source? I've used Connect for a little bit and I really like it, it would be really cool if the app was open source. You practically don't have anything to loose, as you don't sell the app or insert ads and trackers. Lemmy is an open-source plattform, and many (if not most) other apps are also open source, I think Connect should follow that direction. This would also allow you to publish the app on F-Droid.

I can't access https://lemm.ee/c/[email protected] in connect, but I can if I browse on the web. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit - lemmy.fmhy.ml is down and has been for >3 months. I'm guessing Connect knows that and can't post there. It's frustrating that the web version lets me post there without letting me know.

When I hide one or multiple posts and for example refresh the feed or go back to it after going to a notification, they all return as if I never hid them, which kinda defeats the point of hiding them in the first place..

First off I really want to thank the developer for a great app, I'm really enjoying browsing Lemmy with connect.

However, there are two features I got really used to from using joey for Reddit for years. One relatively simple one is a sort of link preview. Whenever someone posts a link next to it there'd be a little info where the link would lead. For example random link in connect looks like this but in joey it looked like this: random link<>. Imo it's really handy to know where a link will lead before you click on it.

The other more complex feature is a reader mode for every thread with a link attached to the post itself. You'd basically have three tabs, the first tab is the thread itself with all the comments and the post. The second tab is a normal browser view of the posted link like you get here when you click a link, and the last version is a reader mode. Which was just the best thing ever. It'd try to circumvent paywalls and gdpr prompts too, so most of the time you'd get a plain text view of the posted article.

I know the second one is a big ask, but if you could at least implement the first one that would be amazing. Keep up the great work!

I post my images using imgur so to not use up server storage on my instance but the images always look blurry unless I tap on them

196

Blocking an instance is determined by the submitting author, not the community the article is submitted to. So if I see a post in the fake community [email protected] and want to block white power.ml, but the post was submitted by [email protected], I will block normalemmy.me instead of whitepower.ml.

Is that expected behavior? Because it was not to me.

Hokay, so: I'm using Connect for a long time now, and for some reason I can't view images from certain servers, such as sh.itjust.works and programming.dev.

I can see the thumnails while scrolling, but when I tap to view (and read) the image, I get this grey placeholder image.

This only happens with those few specific servers, everything else works as intended. My connection is stable and fast. It might be my old as heck phone that's the problem, but I hope someone might be able explain to me what's causing this (and whether or not it can be fixed).

Browsing from lemmy.world.

[Edit]: Tapping on an image from said servers always ends up like this when using Connect (but fine if using Firefox or from my computer): Screenshot

It doesn't actually really work because if you later view your comment it doesn't reflect your extra vote. But it is possible to make the app give you the impression that you just earned an unearned imaginary internet point lol.

If you downvote your own comment and then upvote it again, it doesn't return the net balance of this action, instead double counts your upvote. If you had 1 point like you do by default when making any comment, and then downvote that, it goes to 0 points and then if you upvote, it jumps to 2.

Discovered by accident when accidentally hitting the downvote button and trying to correct it. Guess it's not really important since it didn't appear to actually really manipulate the vote count just temporarily display it wrong for the specific app user but still.

I used Joey for years for Reddit and it has an incredibly useful navigation feature that would allow you to use arrows to jump through every top level comment.

This app would benefit so much from this feature.

Trying to upload an image but receive an error.

When I receive a Lemmy email notification on my phone, and I click on the link inside, it goes to the webpage in my browser, instead of opening in the CONNECT app. How do I reassign that? I'm using Google Pixel 7 with Android 13
