I'm going to throw in a defense of saying both sides for the sake of argument. Both sides can be guilty of similar behavior and pointing that out should not imply symmetry between them. I personally find it frustrating to discuss topics that aren't framed explicitly as right VS left because you immediately get piled of for "both sides aren't the same!!".

I like the idea in practice. We really need to hold institutions accountable for outcomes. But, I think there's probably a better way to do this with less collateral damage on liberal arts.

Flip side, maybe we need to rethink these programs if it really isn't leading to student success.

Eyes rolling to the back of my head on the idea that beer is "toxic masculinity". Some people just like bitter flavors. My entire family drinks black coffee, so I always have. Maybe genetic or learned behavior but no one's trying to prove anything at the breakfast table lol.

Huge fan of good/craft beers (and not just IPAs) so I'm a but defensive on that take. There's such a wide range of flavors to experience and trying something new is a big part of the enjoyment. Same goes for wine, cheese, or any "luxury" food really.

Yeah I totally get the decision but I gotta say I'm disappointed. Maybe it's naive but I loved the idea that one of the premiere instances of lemmy had a core ethos that was a bit different and hopefully less toxic. Now instead of being a core driver for the developing culture of the lemmyverse were kinda just going to end up a niche walled garden. But again, from a mod perspective it get it. It sucks the tools simply don't exist to deal with the massive influx of reddit users.

Realistically, I'll probably end up with a main account elsewhere and hopefully continue to participate here occasionally.

same! I almost never commented on reddit but I've felt a lot more comfortable being active here. Something about the size of it led me to always be of the opinion that 'whatever I'm thinking, it's already been said'.

The copy/paste thing has got to go. It's somewhat non-obvious and make federation even more confusing when people click links and end up not logged in anymore.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but I'd be shocked in reddit hard deletes comments given how valuable that data is.

Agreed Lemmy is a lot cleaner IMO. I'd be all-in if it weren't for the political baggage, even with federation we're empowering these guys and giving them a bigger platform. l'm still uneasy about that.
