*Alien Resurrection. Alien Isolation is a recent title.

The two biggest complaints in the review seem pretty avoidable to me. The first is that they exploited a bug in combat and then were mad when that broke a quest.

Second is that they said that scaling was odd, with one computer (thickly entrenched 40k nerds are already mad with the use of the word computer instead of cogitator) in an area was an easy skill check to use and one in the adjacent area was difficult to use. That doesn't seem like a red flag to me, or at least, it doesn't seem like that in isolation.

So my take away is that some things will be mathematically harder than other things, and don't purposefully exploit bugs. I don't think this review has deterred me from buying.

Without spoilers, I will say it gave me two incorrect answers before I gave up. I think it's neat, but it didn't feel quite ready to me.

The Backpack Gambit paid off well!

Oh boy! The game we should have had at launch? I can't wait to get in my space ship, take off from a planet, fly to a new one, and land without being forced to fast travel.

Yeah, I was surprised to see Kongregate is still operational, much less had enough employees to announce layoffs.

Ooh I will be checking that out tonight. I could never get the whole package of "trap edge in kiosk mode for xcloud" working.

This is what my partner and I call a "state's right to what" problem. The centralized wealth says that centralizing wealth is good. Centralizing wealth is good for whom, Mr. Finance?

The 3ds remake had MGS4 controls including third person shooting. I was surprised to see both crouch walking and first person "classic" aiming.

This is visually impressive but with what they're showing in gameplay, it doesn't look much like 4 or 5 like I think I expected? The aiming looks like it's the 2 and 3 style of stop, hold aim, move gun. That said, it also showed crouch walking which isn't in 3. I'm curious how similar or different it plays.

My big points to hit for a remake would be an improved camo and surgery system. The original game has you pressing start a lot. Like a lot. Having a quick menu for camo would be gigantic. Surgery right now is mostly, you're in a boss fight and got hit, now pause and see if you ran out of bandages yet.

I'm a practicing prosthetist in the US. Myoelectric hands are nothing really that new and even getting control over the hand by surgically dropping an emg directly into the muscle groups (though their diagram implies they did something different) isn't terribly groundbreaking. The FDA had that technology in animal testing right around the start of the pandemic, from what I remember talking to an engineer working on a project.

For me, the exciting part is the osseointegration through the forearm. Osseointegration has been going on since like the 90s, but for a long time it was only through the femur. The first reason is really that the West has way more lower limb than upper limb amputations which is a different story. The second reason is that the femur is a big bone with a lot of interior space for an implant to anchor.

Recently I've been seeing transtibial osseointegration surgeries being performed, which has been a pretty big deal. This is the first I've seen of it being done to a transradial.

I will definitely be reading more about this at work tomorrow.

What great local multiplayer games are on sale right now? Online is fine, but nothing is better than cracking open some cold ones and getting in front of the big screen together. Here are some of my favorites.

Towerfall Ascension - $3 USD with DLC - Local multiplayer archery game made by the creator of Celeste. Celeste uses the same sort of movement as Towerfall so there's dashes, dash cancels, and snappy jumps just like you'd expect. This is my most played game of all time. The DLC is basically mandatory, as it gives you access to the Steam Workshop for user made levels.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - $18 USD - Has to be the GOAT split screen RPG. Local split screen, and the screen merges when you're near each other. Each of you can take one companion and it's like a small MMO. Play your own game or play together. My partner and I have put in dozens of hours and we have maybe 100 hours still left if imagine.

Moving Out - $6.24 USD - All the moving day frustration of "bring your end towards me, no the other way" without actually having to provide a pizza as payment. My group of friends got about three hours out of this before we stopped really loving it, but that works out to $0.50/hour/person at this price, and we might even crack it open again another day.

Currently, I feel like it is difficult to navigate from the inbox to a specific reply in the thread. The usual control panel with upvote/downvote and the three dot options menu don't show up for comments on the inbox. I would love to be able to jump straight from a reply comment directly to the comment on the thread with context.

At Level 20, Wizards get their Capstone Ability. Undeterred by metagaming a power build and resisting the in game temptation to sell your soul for two levels for some Eldritch Invocations you hit Pure Wizard level 20 and get Signature Spell. The miltiverse's most powerful spell caster. You can stand toe to toe with the forces created the universe and you get... extra third level spell slots?

I feel like this was a safety valve for balanced turned until the power stopped dribbling out at all. Choosing a Signature Spell for a Wizard, or any spell caster, is something that happens naturally through the story telling of the game. Having this mechanical moment to celebrate it should both happen much earlier and have a bigger impact.

Presented without play testing, an alternative.

Signature Spell

Starting at level 5, choose a Wizard spell in your spell book of 3rd level or lower to become your Signature Spell. You may cast your Signature Spell at its lowest level once per long rest without expending a spell slot. At Level 9, you may cast your Signature Spell at its lowest level three times per long rest without expending a spell slot. At level 13, you may cast your Signature Spell at its lowest level at will.

I would replace the Capstone with something like Spell Mastery (from level 18) extending to Spells up to 5th level or something.
