PLEASE - Just do anything to give Youtube a run for its money. They're steamrolling right now due to the promise of ad-revenue to streamers though. Idk how to fight that

This incident won't be the last straw, but it will be the turning point of a slow and general decline.
Honestly that makes the weird pacing of this season make a bit more sense. Not that I didn't like it, just that it was outside of the typical narrative arc. For instance, basically introducing the main character on what was it? episode 2 or 3? Almost like the first two episodes were build ups to the setting and lore. Then show turns into a scifi noir.
I'm not sure if I was the intended reply, but as someone with a Beehaw account I can say that this defed is intended to be temporary and at the behest of better mod tools and better moderation of the offending instances.
I think one answer that's not yet been provided is that many people generally "don't know, and don't want to know". They just want it to work the way they want. Politics, social engagement, philosophy, and other broad concepts are gigantic and difficult topics. These strong men figures understand that if they can just say they're taking care of "it" they can also get a lot of what they want as well.
Religion is largely the same, and you'll see a ton of overlap from these kind of people. Often so much so that the venn diagram is nearly a circle. It's just more comfortable and easy to not be introspective and address your own personal biases and entrenched beliefs. Why do that when big strong guy can hurt others when they argue with you.
This isn't a problem with decentralization but more a UI/UX issue with current Fediverse clients. We all need to remember all of them are in early stages of development. I full suspect new features and tools will start popping up in the coming months to assist in the overall usability.
Important note is that Hot is current broken in Lemmy leading to older posts getting boosted to the top in error. It's currently being worked on for the next release.
In all honesty, its better to a have a few accounts anyway. Imagine your main instance goes down for a period of time or permanently. Your account will go down with that ship. Having a few affiliated accounts across the fediverse will help mitigate user downtime. I've got accounts at Beehaw, lemmy.world, and here at Kbin.
Depending on the stipulations of the bill it could result it some social media platforms completely removing themselves from Texas. Also beyond the enforcement question, what defines "social media"? Does Discord fit? What about Telegram? What about iMessage? SMS?
Ultimately, and like much of the recent GOP social legislation, this is mainly just a way to show Republican voters they're "doing" something because none of those same voters will care when this is taken up to the court system and struck down as unconstitutional. Even the article indicates this:
"Critics contend that Texas' law violates the First Amendment and the principles of limited government and individual responsibility."
RIF user here, and I had to move it off my home screen (replaced with Jerboa for Lemmy) but I still can't bring myself to delete it yet :(
Love all of these, but really happy to see Sumatra PDF because that thing is just incredible and is a day 1 install on a fresh OS.
