I agree that this is less the case of a rogue chat bot losing it at undeserving customers, and more the case of someone who knows how to twist an LLM to do what they want it to do, but still an absolute embarrassment for DPD. What other nonsense was it writing to different customers who really didn’t know better?

I used to use mine to control a smart bulb in every room I had an Echo, but the experience has become so dire to the point that I now only use it for the one room where the light switch is in an awkward place to where I enter, and even then I find myself getting extremely frustrated with it. I would rather check the weather on my phone or control my AC through physical buttons than try to instruct something that seems to get worse at understanding me the more I use it.
The idea of paying for any Alexa service is baffling to me. I can barely trust it to flip a switch without mishearing me, trying to sell me something, or dropping a “by the way…”
Due to visa complications I haven’t been home to see my family since I moved continents five years ago. I had no idea when I left that I would never see my dog or the only home that I had ever known ever again.
I’m extremely concerned that I’m also pining for a place that doesn’t exist any more.
lemmy.blahaj.zone sounds like a good fit for you. It’s an instance predominately set up as a refuge for trans people, but accepts anyone respectful. The admins defederate from anything offensive which keeps it a safe place for people who need it. I’m not trans but basically signed up here because I feel the same as you, I come here to unwind before bed and want to avoid inflammatory shit. It’s a great little community.
I use Copilot fully integrated with Office 365 in my work, and was one of the beta testers back in November. Anecdotally, it’s no better than any other LLM, and I have found hallucinates significantly more than ChatGPT. The Office integration is useful and I do use it more than any other AI tool for its convenience being ‘inside’ of Excel / Outlook etc, but you aren’t missing much by not having it.
