Which let's them run the line at the next election about being tough on crime and only they are up to the task. Win win /s

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 hours ago

Well yes, that's literally the way Conservative governments operate, you're catagorised as one of them if you're in the club as a hard working ,upstanding citizen and you're a grifter if not. They have no time for people they see as "grifters", which is most people.

The politics of envy sees many who suffer under conservatives vote for them in the hope they too can have somone to look down upon when they are "successful "...any day now.

Yeah, same here, zero fucks given, they're people, let them move where they want. The upside, if I dont like it I can fuck off.

I hope it languishes around 3-4% at most, if it does get 7%-10% enshitification inevitably ensues and it will grow more and get worse

Change needs to start at the top. Cut the greedy fuckers out of the loop and you'll see how much waste we can reduce

Well, sort of. The top needs to change but that change won't come from them, it has to come from the bottom. Alas it doesn't and won't as voters drift towards fascism looking for easy answers from the very people causing this rather then moving the political Ovrton Window and torwards more green, sustainable radical politcans that are currently sidelined by the orthodoxy.

Finally, a good news article!

Greenhouse gas emissions from Australia’s main electricity grid increased for a third quarter in a row as higher power demand drove more use of black coal and gas plants, the Australian Energy Market Operator says.

Vote Green :(

The report has a clear message – the world is sick, it's addicted to fossil fuels and the only way to bring the temperature down is to get off them

Vote Green ffs

I can only agree

The state Labor government is steering Australia’s climate policy, letting emissions soar unbridled as it paves the way for massive fossil fuel projects

Once all upstream stages were factored in – extraction, piping to a processing facility, compression from gas into liquid form, shipping, decompression back to gas and burning for energy – he estimated the total climate pollution from LNG was 33% greater than that from coal over a 20-year period.

This is not an entirely new idea – previous studies have suggested the gas industry is dirtier than often claimed – but it is nevertheless a potentially extraordinary finding

In 2023, the hottest year ever recorded, preliminary findings by an international team of researchers show the amount of carbon absorbed by land has temporarily collapsed. The final result was that forest, plants and soil – as a net category – absorbed almost no carbon.

Invasive Species Council says 5 million native mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs are killed by feral and roaming pet cats a day in Australia

Keep your cat indoors...please.

A government briefing paper estimates telecommunications companies spent almost $8 million in 2020 repairing damage caused by 5G conspiracy theorists, including replacing towers and other communications infrastructure

The vandalism was one of at least 11 similar attacks in NSW this year. Vandals remove nuts from the bolts that secure the towers to the ground, causing them to eventually topple.

WTF ??? Who does this ?

What we have discovered is that even after almost five years, the trajectory is still in reverse. The impacts are accumulating and it hasn’t stabilised.”

Well, that was another horrific read :( We lived just down the road at the time and had visited the area to hike and swim many times in the years prior.

Transport Minister Eric Abetz says there had been an "overwhelmingly negative" reaction from businesses on the street and shoppers who use existing parking spaces which would have been affected by the trial.

Good on the local goverment for going ahead anyway, and this bit

Every time they do an improvement or make it safer there is more and more people riding," she said.

Ismail Mohammad pushes a buggy down the centre of a narrow road in east Bristol. His two sons stay close as vehicles could come from either direction at any moment. “There are cars [parked] on the pavement. We have to go on the road,” says Mohammad as he hurries to the boys’ primary school in Easton. “It’s dangerous because cars sometimes come fast through here.”

What in tarnation ? What a sorry state of affairs. Good luck to the council !

Bryher has little sympathy for drivers who claim they must park on pavements on narrow roads. “You need to park somewhere else instead … there are enough [spaces] for everyone to park in the city,” he says. “It’s just that you might have to park further away and you might have to consider whether you need a car.
