The github docker-compose file calls out pixelfed:pixelfed as the image, but nothing exists when trying to pull it: https://hub.docker.com/r/pixelfed/pixelfed/tags

Is there a official (or unofficial) image that should be used that is compatible with the sample docker-compose setup (and runs on ARM): https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/blob/dev/docker-compose.yml

Also...DON'T MAKE TOO MANY COMMUNITIES!!! I know we all have our favorite niche subreddits that we'll miss, but we need to reach a critical mass with a core set...and then organically break out communities into more niche communities.

Definitely have backup passphrase/passkey. But is it true that (again assuming just one device) if I log out.....then later log back in with the Passkey....that messages received while signed out won't decrypt? That will be hard to explain to family.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/1230440

Been having issues with folks logging out...then unable to decrypt after signing in again. Even tho they use their passkey, prior messages will not decrypt as they were not logged in anywhere.

So trying to understand some use-cases:

  • If someone is only logged-in on their phone, go somewhere without a signal (e.g., plane, hiking), and then get signal again...will they be able to decrypt messages sent while they were offline (but never chose to sign-out)?
  • If NO....will they be able to decrypt prior messages they had been able to decrypt (i.e., just not the ones sent while offline)?
  • If they lose their phone (again, only source of logging in)...will they be able to backfill messages when setting up a new device with their passkey?

Sorry for the perhaps basic E2EE questions....getting traction with my family using Matrix, but worried about some spouse-acceptance concerns.

Hello fellow [email protected] -- I am currently enjoying a pop for which the west coast just doesn't understand.

I guess for me....folks should try to assume good intentions at the start. I often find (any/all sides) quickly put up defenses, presume the worst, and find ways to be insulted where they wouldn't have if they were also behaving in good faith. Assholes exist, but let them prove that they are first.

Popper's Paradox of tolerance underscores the need for thoughtful consideration, but it doesn't dismiss the importance of civil discourse. Popper himself called for the "tolerance of the intolerant" within the bounds of rational criticism highlights that while we acknowledge the limits of tolerance, engaging in respectful dialogue remains crucial. By upholding civil discourse, challenging ideas through reasoned arguments, and embracing Popper's notion, we can maintain a tolerant society while fostering understanding and progress.

How does that actually work in practice? Its a good model to strive for, but impossible to do in reality.

I, too, like to think of MLK in matters such as this:

"Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they cannot communicate; they cannot communicate because they are separated."

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

Ya....getting them to use something new is the hard part.

Went from Nginx (and I pushed it hard on others to use) to NPM to Traefik to Caddy. Caddy is just simple, easy setup for Certs, and integrates easily with Authelia.

Do you host any Fediverse instances for family (Mastodon, etc)? Curious if you get your family to use it and what headaches when linking to other instances.

Seems like a nice way to combine group texts, picture sharing, etc

Ha! I was confused for a moment until I realized the same thing.

I actually feel more relieved. It has become toxic and dominated by bots. As soon as a real person posts anything, it's immediately down voted

I'm enjoying Lemmy much more. Reminds me of the internet of old.

Curious how big the gap was with the API costs.
