Zorin right now is based on Ubuntu 20.04 and GNOME 3.36, which are pretty much dated. If his friend has a gaming rig, it would be better to look for a more up to date distro

Clap

Clap

Clap

Oh good. My slow clap processing has made it into this thing. So we have that.

This happens on Windows, right? What would happen on Linux, would the keyboard still work as it gets connected?

Yeah, it's doable nowadays. There are many guides that can help you pick a distro and then install what you need. If you're a beginner, usually Linux Mint is the one to go for, unless you have extremely recent hardware

Most of us in Lemmy know the importance of privacy and owning your devices in a big tech owned world (me included) but for once I thought to make the opposite question and ask if there are products by them that you actually use and enjoy them.

Important to say, I mean products you use even though there are alternatives, not monopolies like YouTube.

Tablets, I don't see the appeal of a big phone device that can't fit your pocket and can't make calls

When talking about switching to Lemmy, the idea that gets communicated often sounds very abrupt. Despite Lemmy growing a lot, for at least a long time it will never reach the amount of content Reddit has, so a majority may feel discouraged to keep using Lemmy. But that doesn't have to happen. You can keep browsing Reddit to find those things you need and for those small communities that still haven't migrated, and in the meanwhile be part of Lemmy by creating posts and commenting on them, as long as you do it. One day, there will be enough activity here to let all of us use Reddit only for archival purposes.

Felt like it was important to say to make the switch less intimidating

Customizing your boot video that shows up when you turn the Steam Deck is one of the most entertaining things of it outside of gaming. What are your favorites?

Obviously they needed one app to be saved to tell people "see, just work with us and you can keep operating". But is there a reason behind choosing that specific app, or did they just take a random one?
