Seems to be the case for a lot of industries, even if not as blatant. The economy thrives when people have the means to buy products. You can make production as cheap as you want, you're not making much profit if only the 1% can buy them.

The thing is that bike lanes need to be built intelligently. As a bike commuter I want to have bike lanes that don't force me to ride close to parked cars because that is dangerous for the cyclist and people getting in and out of the cars. I want to be able to conserve momentum and not have to stop everywhere, because building up speed costs effort. In my country if there is a bike lane its use is compulsary, but some lanes are so unsafe or so built to kill your speed that I often do avoid them wholly or partially.

I admit to being somewhat of a vehicular cyclist but I support easier safe options for those who are not.

Oh man I feel that one. I ride my bike fast. Like usually around 28 km/h. But some drivers get downright agressive, and really need to get past me especially when the need to turn into a habitation area in 100 meters.

Yeah, you are allowed to drive as fast as you like on some Autobahns, but if you have an accident and your speed is deemed to be faster than safe, the insurance companies are like "nah bro, you brought this on yourself"

Preach it lady! Each can find a path in life that fits them. If you have to be pushed in a role by someone else who then tells you that is the only way for someone like you, you're not your own person, you're someone elses property.
