This will take another 7 or 8 years to come to fruition.

Just curious because Distrowatch can be easily gamed; does anyone know how this might affect the linux consumer market? I'm using Mint and see no reason to switch to this. I used to nerd out about different distros but aside from the enterprise distros or Debian or Arch preferences I don't see why people are using smaller distros anymore. Hobbyist i guess?

Yandex is a really good search engine 🤷‍♂️

The only Israeli ally in that list is Jordan. The other arab states you're saying are allies are definitely allied with the USA, but their leaders are trying to balance economic stability with geopolitical realities. Ex. the UAE joined BRICS because it's trying to build its sovereignty.

I think people fail to realise that USA == Israel. Even Biden said when he was younger that if Israel wasn't there the USA would have to have some other entity there to keep the middle east fractured. The Anglo-Saxons don't want a powerful Arab world it's a 500-year old rivalry.

Set up a trust to invest the money, from the compounding returns, use a sustainable portion of the dividends to fund a cause you believe will help change the world. Be very explicit to the trust managers as to the long term instructions of the trust.

With compound market returns the million dollars could be worth $40 million in 50 years and would be distributing af a sustainable 3% dividend, 1.2 million a year to a cause you believe in.

I don't understand if these are the charges, why they haven't arrested Zuckerberg for the same. The reason is that Pavel won't install backdoors into his app.

It's because the USA floods countries with cheap goods all the time and then cries foul when someone else does it. It's pure hypocrisy.

Have to disagree. The games and the trailer are very far apart.

I have this issue often. I know if I scratch, it will wake me up and take longer to sleep because of my body movement. If I don't scratch, my mind only focuses on the itch. Sometimes I'll wait 5 minutes for the scratch to go away and then I just cave and start scratching any minor itch I have on my body. Has anyone just not moved and let the itch subside or does everyone scratch?

I recently read a funny comment and wanted to give it the 😂 reaction like I would on a Telegram post, but upvoted instead. Reddit had upvoting downvoting but wondering if Lemmy, being an open source innovative software, should evolve past the upvote downvote and allow for a wide range of emoji reactions to a post.

Interesting if the CIA are prepping for an excuse to exonerate themselves from any messups in strategy they have the Ukranians; blame the people who followed our instructions for not following them well enough.

Interesting take if the CIA are laying the groundwork to exonerate themselves from a possible impending failure.

I'm excited about this MPL licensed tool and wanted to share; it's aiming to be a replacement to Notion, but self-hosted. It's not as feature rich (still in Beta) but it's a modern KMS/Collaboration tool that's looks to be on par with other proprietary options in the market. They seem to have some sort of capital backing because they have a team working on development.

My concern is how the pricing model will work and what features they will lock. They say that it will be free to self-host, but I feel like they will lock some features (most definitely their cloud service.) But if they only lock cloud hosting but allow self-hosting it will be pretty amazing for the self-hosting community.

Do you track your expenses monthly? Annually? Do you have an app or do you use an excel spreadsheet? Any suggested tools?

I use a spreadsheet and track monthly.

It will be interesting to see more traditional BB forum software interconnect with other networks. All the gaming forums that will be able to cross post...

Just finished it. I like this show the comedy is pretty amazing and also it gets pretty emotional too without too much backstory. I did like the more backstory of the demons in seasons 2 and 3. I thought the humanizing of them gave an interesting perspective.

Looking forward to season 5, does anyone know the release date?

I'm just curious for the new or existing people? Lemmy.ml has taken a hard turn to the right since the reddit exodus. There's been a lot of pro-imperialist propaganda being posted on world news, and a lot less diversity of opinion. It feels more neoliberal and neo-con to me.

Does anyone want to share what their political leanings are?

I'll start; I'm anti-imperialist pro-state regulated capitalism. I believe we should have usage based taxes (toll roads, carbon tax) and luxury taxes, and I disagree with wealth taxes for people with less than $250 million. The state should spend more money on consumer protection in all industries (environment, health, finance, etc.) I believe in multipolarity vs. US hegemony.

If you don't live in the USA, and aren't a US-Citizen, most of the following should apply for you.

  • Philip Poems (Singapore)
  • IBKR (USA)
  • Standard Chartered (UK)
  • Saxo (Denmark)

Steps:

  1. Set up a brokerage account. Connect your bank account to the brokerage.
  2. Transfer money in by USD to your brokerage account.
  3. Buy VWRA in a lump sum every time you transfer money in. Try to do this once you've accumulated at least $1,000 to minimize trading commission costs.

That's about it to get you started.

Note if you're in the UK, buy VWRP with GBP, if you're in the EU, buy VWCE with Euros.
