You can check the data the drive itself keeps about disk errors. This data is called SMART.

Figure out if the drive is having problems or not, then look at replacing it.
Another thing that slows down old laptops is thermal throttling. Once again there are plenty of programs you can download to check component temperatures. Have you cleaned dust out of the inside of the laptop and re-done the thermal paste?

You start with base HP at level 1. Every time you level up, you roll a die (which die is determined by what class you are playing) and add your constitution modifier.

So based on the other comments, I would check the cooler and anything else that was above the CPU to see if something got too hot and dribbled solder on the CPU. Also is the socket next to that drop clean, or are there other smaller droplets nearby?
How do you control that from the couch? Wireless keyboard and mouse, or something else?
Modern micro red dots are mounted to the slide. And are designed to withstand the g forces from the slide cycling. They will hold zero for thousands of rounds.
The sight pictured here certainly would not be able to do that. But that's what 40+ years of development in optics and materials will do.
