Your nose isn't runny, but can you breathe easily ~~through both nostrils~~?🥲

I still havent transitioned to debian (still have win10 as main), I'm just booting to them from an external drive, so I can simply wipe the root partition any time I want to try a distro :)

Once I settle with a distro and manage to set it up the way I want, I will probably fully switch to linux (and maybe keep an image of my win10 os to run in a vm)

Storage wasn't my biggest issue (besides, I have 1tb internal ssd). It was that flatpaks couldnt communicate well with the rest of the environment. So I resorted to using flatpaks mainly for closed source apps that I wanted to isolate.

BUT, as I was making a script (https://github.com/BlastboomStrice/3rdPartyAutoUpdater) to automate github/gitlab/etc. updates (because the debian repo doesnt have them or they are outdated), I realized that I was essentially making a small scale version of nixos package manager.😆

So, now I'm very tempted to use the nix package manager and maybe do a full switch to NixOS (I'm not very advanced though, I havent even tried Arch, so ughh).

My mood concearning what distro to use on my laptop is rather volatile😅

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I initially thought about using flatpaks for almost every non-core app, but then I found out that 1) it's hard for flatpak apps to communicate with the rest of the system and 2) for a 10Mb app, 1+Gb might be downloaded. So, I'm trying to avoid these too🥲

Also, some packages dont even have flatpaks, so I grab packages from github (and installing .deb packages on testing may lead to failed installs due to missing dependencies....)🥲

I see I see, thank you for you quick reply. This tempts me even more to use sid, hmm.

This is a different question from the original post, but do you happen to know what to do when listbugs warns me that a package has bugs? I suppose almost all packages have some bugs to some degree. Should I just avoid them on Sid? Or should I check how bad the bug is (if it belongs to a serious category) and decide whether to update it?

Ok I got my answer😬😅

Thanks🧡

I personally try to avoid gendered language, but if I do use it, I tend to check their profile-bio :)

Hello everyone!

About 2 weeks ago, kbin.social went down due to maintenance issues, but it seems like federation hasn't been restored on this instance.

Specifically, I am subscribed to https://kbin.social/m/greece which federates with lemmy.world, but on this instance posts since 2 weeks ago and later dont seem to be federating.

Could you please check it and maybe re-enable it in the future?

(I know that currently there's a migration happening and we'll soon(?) update to 0.19.4, so this issue I'm pointing may have to wait till all these finish first (or updating may fix it without any extra work)).

Thank you for maintaining this instance! :)

I just checked the github page of lsposed and saw that it is now archived :/

I found a short thread on xda mentioning it as well.

The official announcement is on telegram.

This is sad...

Due to the nature of fediverse, you can't just do a "site:lemmy" search as you'd do with reddit (site:reddit.com). I was searching for ways to do it on my firefox browsers and I came to a solution that searches 21 different instances simultaneously, which I consider to be a big part of lemmy (I also include kbin instances). I am using firefox with DDGO (which has a 500-character limit per search query).

There's gonna be a text you will have to copy, I'll just write it once here hidden inside the spoiler:

"URL string"https://duckduckgo.com/%s (site:lemmy.world |site:kbin.social |site:lemm.ee |site:programming.dev |site:lemmy.ml |site:sh.itjust.works |site:feddit.de |site:lemmy.ca |site:beehaw.org |site:lemmy.dbzer0.com |site:lemmy.blahaj.zone |site:discuss.tchncs.de |site:sopuli.xyz |site:lemmy.one |site:feddit.uk |site:midwest.social |site:infosec.pub |site:slrpnk.net |site:mander.xyz |site:ttrpg.network |site:lemdro.id)

Replace it when I ask you to write the "URL string".

There are different processes, depending on the type of device/OS (computer, mobile/android etc.). I will list some of them and you can pick the one you want:

  • Firefox Android: Go to search settings->manage alternative search engines->add search engine. Pick a name you want (eg. Lemmy) and on the search string URL paste the "URL string" I've written above. Now next time you want to search Lemmy, just select "Lemmy" as your search engine.

  • Firefox Computer V1: Create a bookmark with a name you want (eg. Lemmy search). In the URL field paste the "URL string" I've written above. In the keyword field add a keyword to use as a prefix to your searches (eg. @l). Now to search Lemmy, you can type @l "random search" in the address bar.

  • Firefox Computer V2: Open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar. In the search box type: browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh Click on the little + symbol on the right. Go to firefox Settings->Search or enter this in the address bar: about:preferences#search In the "Search Shortcuts" section you should notice a new "Add" button. Just like on android, press "Add", insert a name (eg. Lemmy), add the "URL string" from above and once you're done you can add a keyword (eg. @lemmy). If you want, you can now go back and disable browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh (press the trash can icon) (I don't know if this will crash anything).

I really wanted to search lemmy, but not being able to do a simple site:lemmy detered me from doing so.

So there you have it! The added text is 412 characters which leaves 88 characters for your searches. You can change the url to add/remove instances you want. If anyone can improve it please (like shrinking the url or if you manage to search all instances) it will be appreciated.

I've been casually browsing lemmy for about 5 months and so far I've gathered 1251 memes (or pics generally) on my phone which I almost never bother to share with anyone (I also don't think they are funny enough to share them with my people) and I barely ever see my collection.

I just keep saving images of mainly weird humor (like from this community).🤷

Sending a random image for anyone else who's on the hunt for random images as well as me.

Greetings,

When downloading books from zlibrary, the top option is the format which is stated in the description, with "basic format" added in the end. The rest of the options may include the same format without the "basic format" tag in the end and they are slightly bigger.

What's their difference? Is it the same document re-formated to the same format thus making it slightly bigger or does it have anything extra?

Like, supposing there's a book which is a pdf. The options may be:

  • pdf basic format 1.2mb
  • pdf 1.25mb
  • epub 1mb

What's the difference between the first two?

PS. My first post on lemmy!🙃
