Jerboa for Android, mlem for ios

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Thanks!

Looks like for iOS this is still in beta, so you will need to install "testflight" from the appstore (allows to install beta apps) and then go to https://testflight.apple.com/join/xQfmkJhc on your iphone/ipads browser and accept the invite link. Then you can install mlem, start it and log in (dont forget to type in the address of your instance at the top)

Oooh, thanks for sharing that info for others!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Typing this from mlem and the experience is incredible and very Apollo-like. And this is a pre-release version -- great work by the dev.

I’m using mlem and it mostly works fine, though it is pretty early access still and has its quirks

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

This echoes my Jerboa experience.

These are still early days.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's also memmy for ios now (beta, in test flight)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Just installed it, thanks for the recommendation. I like its interface so far, I might use this instead of Mlem.

There's Jerboa, which is pretty good. I'm still getting used to it's functionality.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I haven't figured out how to subscribe to new communities on Jerboa. I keep having to go back into the web browser to do it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you are on this post : click on the name of the community at the top (above the post title). Then the community opens and you can click "subscribe". In some communities you need to be approved, then you see "pending".

Right, sorry, I was misremembering my issue. There's no search bar on Jerboa, so I can't find new communities through the app unless they happen to pop up on All.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The second icon in the bottom navigation bar of the main view gets you to the list of your subscribed communities. In the searchbar at the top you can search for other communities over all instances.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Ah, thanks! I thought that would just search my subscribed communities!

Do you get the bug that messes with your cursor if you try to move it and then write? Or the backspace issue?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Highlighting text is a pain. I've realized you can't tap or swipe the cursor to select more. You can only swipe over text and hope you got it all. This is still an alpha build in active development though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The bugs I'm talking about are unmistakingly a backspace bug and a cursor bug. I would blame my phone then, but I've had it on different phones with different keyboard apps. Oh well, thankfully the webapp straight from an instance is great as well.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well I have bugs with the cursor too. Can you describe what you mean by the backspace bug you're experiencing?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Perhaps better to try to illustrate. The | is my cursor.

First I write somethinge.

First I write somethinge. |

Find a typo, so backspace thrice, previous space disappears

First I writesomething|

Insert cursor, try to add space, accidentally add an N due to small onscreen keyboard.

First I writen|something.

Backspace to remove N, word contracts again.

First Iwrite|something.

It keeps going until the entire text field is one gigalarge single word.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I am not experiencing that, no.

What keyboard app are you using? I do also hate that when editing a comment my cursor dwfuskts to the very beginning of the first line. Have it be after the existing txt makes more sense.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Scrolling feels really janky

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

You didn't specify whether you use an iPhone or Android. Android phones have Jerboa for Lemmy. Mlem is being developed for iOS, but is still in the early stages.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Jerboa seems alright, been using it myself.

I’m pretty new to this corner of the world so if this is a reused joke then whatever. But I thought this was fucking hilarious.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Memmy feels like it could be a spiritual successor to Apollo.

The only things I'm really missing right now is the compact post size and tap to collapse.

Hopefully we get that in time.

I use Thunder
