Looking forward to Sync for Lemmy!
Really looking forward to Lemmy on Sync. Hopefully it helps kickstart some greater exodus from Reddit to Lemmy.
Really loved sync, and on principal have quit reddit. I don't know if it does anything, but when I need search results from reddit I view the Google cached version instead.
Looking forward to sync for lemmy (I NEED a read-on-scroll for lemmy, I don't know how everyone else is handling it).
Using Connect for Lemmy until Sync rises again from the ashes
Same here! I've tried a handful of apps, including some paid versions, and Connect for Lemmy is the most intuitive I've found so far
What's a read-on-scroll?
Infinite scroll. More posts/replies loading as you scroll so you never reach a load more screen
Sync would mark posts on reddit as read when you scrolled past them, even if you didn't read it. Paired with hide read it let you keep viewing content you hadn't seen before. Here so far I just skip a few pages in and hope for the best.
I just used the revanced hack to make it still work by making Reddit think it's my own developed app. Able to use it right now!
But I REALLY like Lemmy, so even if I occasionally use Reddit after that dumpster fire, my usage will be split in half by Lemmy.
I tried the Revanced patch as well, it worked flawlessly, but oh dude, it was still the official reddit app, it was so bad lmao I had been using Boost for about 3 years and honestly there is no point of comparison, 3rd party apps are so much better.
I think you misunderstood, I used the revanced manager to patch Sync so I could continue to use it, not the official app to just remove ads (which would still be an improvement).
Ah yes, I thought you had patched the official app.
Could you go into more detail here, or provide a link that explains this hack? Thanks
Here you go. It doesn't violate the terms of service for Reddit to use it this way, but given the fact that blacking out or John Olivering subreddits was also not against TOS but Reddit took action against it, it's strongly recommended you make a new Reddit account if you plan to do this.
RIP! Using Connect for now until Sync/Boost are ready for Lemmy :)
I've tried Jerboa, Liftoff, and Connect, and so far Connect is my favorite. Definitely waiting with anticipation for Sync for Lemmy, though.
Also on Connect and it's daily updates are making it very usable. It's quick, slick, has material you and even the bugs are somehow not really distracting, they don't have a negative impact on the experience.
Mostly things like "1 points" or the not reacting textarea toolbar. It could be coded by me, it makes me already feel at home.
Sync for Reddit is dead.
Long live Sync for Lemmy!
End of an era for me. Had the pro version for 11 years and was using the free before that. Most app screentime every day on my phone. I refuse to install the official reddit app.
I had the official app installed for push notifications, but other than the initial setup I never opened it.... holy shit it's bad.
There's a Revanced patch for Sync as well as a few other popular apps that let's you continue using 3rd party apps. I'm currently running a patched version of Sync Pro and it still completely works just like it did before.
Does nsfw work?
The current workaround is to become a moderator. Just create your own subreddit and that should potentially give you access to nsfw. Maybe also set the sub to nsfw for good measure.
which Revanced patch allows to continue using it? I use the "recommended" two (Change Oauth Client Id and Disable Ads) and the patcher keeps aborting
Could you source this?
At least Sync and a couple of the other 3rd party Reddit apps will have a revival for Lemmy!
Do you happen to know what some of the other apps are that are switching to Lemmy?
Boost for Lemmy has just opened up registrations on the Play store.
Thanks. Just registered!
Using "Connect for Lemmy" right now cause jerboa is borked for me lol
same connect is good one. but waiting for sync since I have been using pro since 8 9 years
I was a RiF user the day I got reddit and I was a RiF user the day I deleted my account, I just like Jerboa cause it seems to match the vibe.
Was sync available on Android? I can't remember.

Yes, Sync for Reddit was on Android

An end is just a beginning for something else. Can't wait to use Sync for Lemmy.
How many of you haven't uninstalled but still accidentally open it a couple of times a day due to habit?
Yup, incredible, I was using SyncPro hours per day for 10 years, I certainly spent thousands of hours on it ☹️
Yeah, sync was alright I guess...
