Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in [email protected]. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media. Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to any of the mods: @[email protected], @[email protected], or @[email protected].

In a televised interview on Tuesday, Macron accused Netanyahu's government of "unacceptable" and "shameful" behaviour over its aid blockade on Gaza, which has been in force since March 2.

"What the government of Benjamin Netanyahu is doing is unacceptable ... There is no water, no medicine, the wounded cannot get out, the doctors cannot get in. What he is doing is shameful," Macron told TF1 television Tuesday

Getting β€œslammed” by Bibi the Butcher means you’re on the right side of history and morality

Isn't this guy a war criminal? Maybe he should "slam" himself out a glass window

Wonder what changed.

A month ago nobody would openly say this. Now the media is calling it out. Heads of state. Etc.

I still don't understand why everyone was bending over backwards to support this shit. Like what am I missing?!

Israel is a US ally. The US kinda helped brush a lot of stuff under the rug, either pressuring companies or our other allies to help. Now we have fucked over most of our allies, they might not be so willing to continue. It's been infuriating to watch, but thankfully it might drag our name a little more through the mud, which we do deserve.

The EU is fed up with the US is the best I can guess.

The US is by far the biggest supporter of Israel. A lot of countries are nice to Israel just to please the US. Trump made that almost useless. Even Germany is not willing to just send all sorts of weapons to Israel anymore, but just some parts. The other large European countries are even less supportive then that, besides maybe the UK. Quite simply without US support Israel has to end the war.

The other part is Israel breaking the ceasefire agreement with Hamaz and continued local opposition. Israel has lost a lot of good will around the world and that very much includes Europe. It is just that most Europeans do not care that much about Israel to really push their governments to do something and to be fair, they can not do too much anyway.

For France i think it is ever increasing pressure on domestic issues. Macron also allowed Netanyahu to travel through French airspace to visit the US not to long ago. So Macron on the one hand uses foreign policy to distract from his domestic issues and on the other hand French Muslims and Leftists are very pissed at France lack of action so far.

As Melchior pointed out there is the whole disenfranchisement from the US and then there is also Israels ambigious relationship with Russia, wanting Russia to maintain its military hold in Syria to prevent a Turkish military presence from establishing among other things.

It's simple. The genocide is almost complete, so now, after the thing is done, we can start complaining and asking for justice. It really doesn't matter, whether anyone goes to jail or not. It's done, all that was needed from the point of view of all these psychopaths. They will be known for History and claimed as heroes for many.
