If Nazis don't like something

It's probably worth supporting

Two shitty delusional cult leaders hate each other.

Screenshot of a Tumblr post by cryptotheism: I would rather have a woke pope than a nonwoke pope but there will never be a pope woke enough to un-genocide the Americas.

the catholic church is an institution that is rotten to its core, even when fascists hate the guy at the top

[–] [email protected] 18 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Appreciating that the Church will be anti-republican and leaning ever so slightly more into liberalism can exist alongside the Church’s history.

I’ll never be pro-religion, but we n ed to take a win when we can.

A book I was just reading told a story of how the Massachusetts church was trying for a long time to build more affordable housing, and basically got blocked out by NIMBYs and white patriarchy. So, given recent media, I’ve found them to sometimes be okay.

I don’t think we should be surprised their pro-zionists in the Bible Belt are psychopaths molesting children though.

It's weirdly cloying, right? Amid all the negative press, the catholic church is on the whole responsible for a shocking amount of good in the world. Personally, a catholic hospital waiving the cost of a (really extravagant) medical disaster is both the only reason I'm still alive and not living in crippling debt as a result. Sometimes they do, in fact practice what they preach, and that's awesome.

That ain't the big-c Church, though. Their socially regressive attitude alone has inflicted more harm than all the good they've ever done, and that's just one of the minor things they're responsible for. It's important to keep in mind that individuals doing good works don't represent the absurdly draconian institution they're a part of.

The capital R is very important in your comment.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Unfortunately really not a high bar.

Normal person: We should improve society somewhat.
MAGA: ~~Woke.~~ What is wrong with that person? Why are they aware of issues that we face as a society? We need to put a stop to this by voting for a guy who's never lived an ordinary day in his entire life.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Also MEGA, it doesn't matter anyway because I hate who I'm told. Even if I don't know why. Knowing things (anything at all) is what the libs want.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 17 hours ago

Don't let them off that easy.

They were hating minorities long before Trump came along. He just taught them that it was acceptable.

These people would literally crucify Jesus again if he came back, even with absolute undeniable proof that's him.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 hours ago
[–] msage 61 points 1 day ago (2 children)

even FASTER with absolute undeniable proof that's him

[–] [email protected] 14 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Well yeah, he would be black and therefore clearly a member of MS13

[–] [email protected] 12 points 19 hours ago

Omg, how funny would it be to popularize portraits of Jesus with MS13 on his knuckles in Calibri typeface.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 23 hours ago (5 children)

quick get rid of the evidence

what evidence

the evidence that we were wrong

[–] [email protected] 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Jesus: "The fuck is a border?". "What do you mean rich people, how could there be poor or desperate people?". "You created projectiles that explode and kill people? I thought you torturing me was supposed to be the end of this shit?".

...this is hopeless, I'm going back to heaven, see none of y'all there

Somebody should really report these MAGA people for their anti-Christian biases

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Fundamentalist protestants hate Catholics almost as much as they hate Jews and Muslims.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

The evangelicals I know deny that catholics are even christian. I understand it's some stupid wordplay - they call themselves Catholic instead of Christian therefore they aren't Christian. We don't self identify as a denomination, simply as Christian because obviously we are the correct, default choice.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It’s not ridiculous for Protestants to say catholics aren’t Christian. Protestant movements came about because they believed the Catholic Church wasn’t teaching the word of God. It’s not a coincidence it came about at a similar time to the printing press.

As people became more literate they started to learn the contradictions between the priests and the bible. The reaction to this resulted in movements that preached personal relationships with God and rejection of false profits (worshiping popes, saints etc).

If your not aligned with either of these religions is seems ridiculous. The reality is you can’t think Protestantism is the correct path if you believe Catholics are Christians. This is the same for many religions, they mostly claim they are right and everyone else is wrong.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

The above doesn't track. Every sect of Christianity thinks its the "true" sect, but you aren't likely to see a Methodist claim an Baptist isn't Christian. They just claim they aren't following god correctly.

Attempting to remove catholics or even mormons from being "Christian" at all is just a push to de-legitimize them as religions entirely. It's not reasonable, it's hateful by design, an intentional "othering."

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Mormons are non-trinitarian, so I'd say people trying to claim that they're not Christian have a much better case than protestants saying Catholics aren't Christian.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

They believe in the same god, son and the holy spirit, but believe they are separate-ish, yes.

I think that's just a case of degrees of "how we see the same god," so i'd call that a pretty weak argument, honestly.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 14 hours ago (5 children)

I don’t think you got the central point. Protestants exist to protest Catholicism. A Protestant that recognises catholics as Christian’s wouldn’t be a Protestant.

Different sects of Protestantism are able to recognise other sects as Christian’s because a central tentant of Protestant practice is the personal relationship with God. So different sects of Protestants find that easier to accept. Where as Catholics practice a relationship with God that is tied to the organisation and the Pope.

Mormons are arguably a different religion altogether. Similar to how Jewish/Christian/Islam all share similar but different religious texts making them all different religions.

The intended outcome is othering.

You misunderstand reasonable. It does not mean good, more the natural conclusion given the context.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 13 hours ago

One group that INVENTED their version of Religion, hates that other group who invented a slightly different version of the same Religion that uses the same reference book with all the same cast of characters. Its like one theater troupe wanting to murder another theater group because they disagree with their costume choices in the exact same play.

And ALL of it is a fantasy, supported by stories made up by neolithic goatherders to pass the time.

Mormons add a large extra chunk. Other dominions have different interpretations and some added teachings but it's not entirely unreasonable

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago

Not entirely unreasonable except for the whole thing where it's clearly a bronze age myth that has somehow survived into modernity

Is that because he's not trump? Were there MAGAts who genuinely believed that trump even had a chance?!

Wait, never mind, of course MAGAts thought trump had a chance, they don't live in reality.

Source: I live there

Well that makes you a communist. Living in reality is a form of communism

[–] [email protected] 8 points 20 hours ago

He has said some anti lgbt and anti feminist stuff. But also, he has said anti capitalist, pro worker's union, and pro immigration stuff.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So basically turning around the MAGA philosophy? They hate everything vaguely leftist, even if it's food for them. Like bicycle paths, renewable energy, unions, taxing the rich, universal healthcare, etc. Not really a good way of looking at things.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 day ago

It must be a coincidence that all of the things on that list would be to the minor detriment of the wealth of billionaires and trillion-dollar companies if they were implemented

I would've lost it if they had elected any of the other more conservative candidates. The less conservative-leaning-on-fascism, the better. Fingers crossed this comment ages well.

Could he be a pope if he didn't?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

Martin Luther complained about rampant pedophilia centuries ago. Expecting change at this point...
