Reddit is fucking dead. It's like 40% Russian psyops trolls, 25% bots, 25% Nazi trolls, 5% users, and 5% admins looking for shit to ban people for
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
Remember back in 2022 when Russia disconnected from the global Internet? Reddit was great that day. The amount of trolls and devisive posts plummeted and discussions were much more civil. That was when I first started thinking about looking for a different place to hang out (I had been a pretty prolific reddit commenter). Then the stuff in spring 2023 happened and I found my way here, leaving Reddit for good. No regrets for sure.
I got a 3 day site wide ban for saying that without due process, these ICE guys are just racking up hundreds of kidnapping and trafficking charges in a sane world. The ban said I was threatening violence. I'm done with Reddit.
I figure they have AI chatbots making the decisions and it can’t ~~term~~ tell the difference between talking about violence and advocating for violence
Or underpaid and overworked and possibly non native speaker human contractors
It really seems like it. I had all my posts wiped for the night when I got banned. It bothered me that my posts in r/lockpicking got wiped after I made a post in /r/news. I just said ICE agents should be concerned with the amount of kidnapping and trafficking charges that they could see if sanity takes back over because it's getting into the thousands. Mods said that was violent talk and I was banned. I'll miss r/lockpicking. It was a fun community.
Considering that the US is a fascist dictatorship now, pigboy is a fascist, and r/conservative gets boosted to the front page, it's likely a non trivial number of mods and admins are paid intelligence operatives acting on behalf of Russia, fascists/conservatives, and corporate lobbyists.
They want to be "Corporate Friendly."
Criticize corporations, or Musk and Trump for a week, enjoy your permanent ban.
We'll be here for you.
Got banned for saying that "Israeli people should be upset enough with Netanyahu to have his head on a pike" for "advocating violence". Even non-native English speakers are familiar with this expression which does not literally mean heads on pikes unless you somehow travel back in time to medieval Europe.
I've been on reddit since it's inception and while I didn't go there that often now that Lemmy exists the ban kinda seals the Reddit brand for me.
Another turning point was the April fools mini game this year which was universally hated. This has never happened on Reddit before. I think Reddit is beyond redemption at this point unfortunately and Reddit itself thinks that so they'll get their bags while they can.
on pics i was able to get some people reported for the ops of those post trying to frame it as a BIDEN only issue(these gaza injuries pics are a biden caused issue) i was reminding them all republicans wouldve supported as well as any D president, which i reported as misinformation . and then i pointed out this was never the issue for the decades of the same violence while benajmain was in power, and suddenly it started popping up as propaganda against biden. remember trump told Netanyahu not to stop the attacks, because it would hurt his chances of winning, dint seen any railing trump for doing that, so it means all those posts were just to attack the dems.
Tbh I'm 80% conviced that Reddit is infiltrated by Israel astroturf and I say that as someone who used to support Israel.
All these bad actor signs that Israel justifies is actually doing a long term opposite if it can flip supporters like this. Extremely poor leadership of really unmatched levels up until recent US election of Trump imo.
I had a 13 year old account I simply stopped using in 2023 when compact.reddit.com was killed and the API changes fees were introduced. Lemmy was "good enough" get to get what I was getting from reddit. I stopped using reddit and haven't posted since.
I got permabanned just for participating in /r/enoughmuskspam. We figured out Musk frequented the sub, and as an active member who mocked him daily, I had a feeling it was coming. I'm fairly sure he flagged me and other users for permabans.
Their excuse was that I said (((Soros))) to a Nazi MAGA claiming Soros was funding all the protests, which wasn't at all true. Why is that a bannable offense? Never seen censorship like that on the net in my life
My suspicion is that it's happening a lot and that they want to turn Reddit red like they did with Twitter. Musk and Reddit's CEO are pals.
That was a honeypot to ban anyone critical of Musk, and corporations in general.
I fell for it, too.
musk monitors reddit , since hes on xitter all the time. he has the time, because hes high on cocaine or adderall to give him that energy.
I'd say the most recent major influences were the IPO and the emergence of LLMs.
Reddit becoming a publicly traded company and the preparation to do so certainly initiated a major shift in its priorities.
Ai and large language models make it easier than ever to create shiny, but low quality content.
And the rest is just reddit becoming more mainstream leading to an overall shift towards banal rather than niche topics.
Reddit only wants plain vanilla, perfectly non-offensive content. Nothing controversial, nothing. As to why they've changed, we can kick that idea around all night long, but that's where they're at, what they want.
right wing content, is hardly vanilla, they have been gearing for that just like FB AND youtube does now. right wing content drives traffic, specifically right wingers to the site, and hate watchers.
Welcome to the reality! I saw reddit changing in a bad way 2 years ago and came to lemmy.
Me, too. 12 year account, 900K+ Karma. I was looking forward to crossing the million mark this year.
At first I was concerned about having fewer people on Lemmy, but for things like Politics, the quality of discourse is far higher than Reddit. Every Reddit post is filled with puns, idiots, trolls, Russian propaganda farmers, etc., all of which are far smaller or non-existent on Lemmy.
I still miss Reddit's active guitar subs, though.
Loved r/huskers the one here on Lemmy exists but it's pretty dead
You need to delete all of your content ASAP because 12 year account can be 100% tied back to you. Everything you said and all of your history data might as well be public on the web with your name right now so you should keep that in mind.
Its laughably easy to tie accounts to identities these days with machine learning tools and 12 years of data is a lot.
Yep, also told off Nazis. Then, perm banned. I've been on that site for 15 years, moved over to Lemmy. Fuck Reddit.
The only reason I log in there now is to slowly erase my comment history.
Literal brownshirt-wannabes are not worth engaging on social media, and "don't feed the troll" has been an Internet aphorism since last century now
Just in case you didn't know this, here is a program that lets you mass edit and delete all your comments on Reddit:
https://redact.dev/services/reddit
The free version only edits all your comments with random words, but for me was good enough just to delete my main account asap.
I've seen the randomized replacement text results here and there. Right now I'm getting some entertainment value from rereading my footprints before I scrub them, but I might look into that service.
Not to mention the reposts.
The number of old pics and videos that keep reposting is through the roof.
r/AskReddit has dropped in quality. It used to keep me busy and entertained for ages.
The only reason I use Reddit now are for old niche posts that answer specific questions. Other than that, I find my selfing going to lemmy first these days.
