Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

You know, it's hard to beat that feeling you get when you nail a reverse park first time.

@Axisential @Dave I have a natural talent for parallel parking and revel in it. I feel like a hero when traffic is backed up and I need to parallel park. No worries fam, I think to myself, I've got this one.

Oh man, parallel parking with a line behind you! Gotta love when you pull forward indicating you're gonna do a parallel park, and the car behind you follows you up close behind you. Then they can't go back because they have a car behind them, you can't get into the park, everything is stuck.

Extra fun when they are honking at you for blocking traffic when it's their fault.

Ok it only happened once, but I'm still bitter about it.

@Dave crazy story but this just happened after my message. A car pulled up to my bumper and wanted the park i was reversing into. The lady refused to move!

Bugger that, I had nowhere to be and can stay stubborn longer than her lack of shame can last.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Haha holy crap! I have to say I've never had something like that.

This is a weekly occurance for me, atleast. The other classic is traffic overtaking you so you cant start the parking procedure. Often Only 1 in 10 of those , in my experience, are willing to give up 20seconds so you can get into the park, in order to reduce the risk of a collision with oncoming traffic - since the overtaking crosses the centreline. And more often than not the other 9 are just rushing to get to a queue of cars at an intersection only 100 metres ahead, which they could clearly see. Designing cities around cars is idiotic, and the whole being in charge of this clunky inefficient stupid machine alters the behaviour of some people in strange ways, the most concerning of which is a disconnect with the physical reality of driving in relation to safety. Id like to hope those 9 in 10 overtakers are smarter in every other aspect of their lives. I can only take personal responsibility for myself , i.e its my fault I drive.

Oh if cars are overtaking I just keep going and do my thing. They will stop if they can't get past.

TBH I don't do an awful lot of driving (work from home 95% of the time) so I don't get a lot of opportunity for crazy drivers anymore.

Reversing cameras have made it too easy. Nailing it without a reversing camera makes you feel extra awesome 😆

We've got a 360 camera on the car we bought a few months ago. It's still an achievement for me to reverse into a park even with that!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The trick is to get good without it first. Then having a camera makes it feel like cheating.

Though I don't think a 360 view is as helpful as you'd expect. The view directly back is more helpful I think, in combination with using your wing mirrors and looking out the back window.

Got myself a handheld emulator earlier this week (the Miyoo Mini Plus). Loaded it up with a bunch of retro games like Dangerous @Dave, Prince of Persia, Aladdin, Crash Bandicoot, Contra, Chrono Trigger etc, so that's my weekend sorted.

Flashback to my childhood there

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh wow, this brings back memories! I love how years later you find out this game from your childhood was actually a tech demo.

And those shareware games. Crystal Caves and Commander Keen come to mind. You got this full length fun game for free, and then they charged you for the sequels. I never played any sequels though 😆

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I really miss the shareware era, such a great way to try out games and apps (legally) without needing to pay for them.

And yeah, Apogee had so many bangers back then like the Keen series. I'm also playing Bio Menace right now, which is based on the Keen engine, and it's still so much fun.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Oh I hadn't heard of Bio Menace! I kinda went off the platform genre but enjoy the occasional familiar level of these classics.

Oh that's nice! AliExpress? I've looked at these a few times...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Actually got it from Trade Me, they had a couple of these in stock luckily, so it was delivered within two days of purchase. But otherwise I would've bought it from Amazon or eBay due to the buyer protection they offer (+ more reliable tracking), instead of AliExpress.

Was treated to a sugary breakfast this morning, now trying to get into the mood to do some stabbing (cross stitch) but feeling too lazy to focus properly.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

First half down and jeez it’s close. That early try was a good way to get the blood pumping this morning.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Turns out I jinxed it by saying it was close. My bad.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Aha! I wondered whose fault it was 😂

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Amazing weather! A shame we have to spend a lot of today cleaning

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Who's making you? Chores are always best left for later

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Going away soon so need to tidy up a bit for the house sitter... plus a few jobs that were overdue

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah I guess you should probably do it then. But I'm sure you can put it off another day. Or two.
