That's a good point. I have a set of random smiley-faced magnets that came from somewhere like Para Rubber or an Asian import shop. The only problem with those is they're usually packaged so you can't test them on the shelving to see how strong they are.

You could always buy the touristy ones and get the kidlets to paint over them 😉

Where do you live? Presumably any local gift shop will be selling magnets showing off the local attractions.

Mashed, definitely. With maybe a bit of sugar or stevia sprinkled on top.

Cheese goes on toast with marmite. Or better yet, on muffin splits with marmite.

I'd love to answer in te reo but I don't know the word for ennui, lol. Tuesdays always seem to hit different, which is why I'm sitting at my desk at work hanging out on social media on my own laptop.

I couldn't get back into lemmy even with a hard refresh, until I thought to try accessing it through mastodon and saw this message. Haven't tried sync yet, I keep forgetting I have it installed.

There have been theories for years about celiac disease. I found a trial and suggested Mum join in (she's in the extreme end of the disease) and she was horrified. Honestly, if I had tested positive for celiacs I'd been keen to give this a go. Having a passenger that would allow me to have a beer and a sausage roll with exploding at both ends? Sign me up.

Not keeping up with the news is the best thing I did for my mental health in 2023. I have a vague idea of what's going on but not insisting on keeping up with the latest and worst has been a good move.

I think the stress and uncertainty of the last few years has left us with no real optimism. There's usually a lot more talk of New Year New Start and resolutions about getting your life generally better but now it feels like it's just dragging yourself past a check-in point on a fairly mundane racetrack.

This year I'm definitely going to try and focus on good things in my journal to see if I can improve my outlook.

I was using a Kensington Profit vertical wireless trackball (the one with the red ball) and that's what broke. I'm replacing it with a Logitech MX Ergo, which is what I had before trying the Kensington. Between the two, the logitech feels much smoother and is charged via cable, so there are no extra batteries to keep purchasing.

I have a wired kensington expert as well and definitely prefer the ball under the thumb instead of in the middle. I tried playing solitaire with the expert yesterday and it just wasn't a natural fit for the repetitive movements or drag and drop.

I much, much prefer either type of trackball to any kind of mouse, since they sit in one spot and are much easier to manage when you're sitting on a carpeted floor - you don't need a clear amount of flat space to use one.

I have compromised by stealing the SO's one.

But the new one is on special thanks to Boxing Day deals, so there's that.

Photo Friday didn't last long (although I may have warned you that I'm terrible at sticking with things) but it's a new month and a new weekend so let's try a weekend challenge instead.

Snapshot Saturday is more about taking candid shots of everyday things, rather than hunting out the perfect shot for a particular prompt. So feel free to share a photo of something from your weekend - before and after shots of gardening progress, the shiny finish on your freshly cleaned vehicle (haha) or a good sunset.

Rules: No NSFW, no shots you didn't take yourself.

It's Friday! There was no prompt last week because I sort of went into lurk mode - it's a bad habit that I need to work on.

This week's prompt is black and white.

Whether it's a two-tone cat or something quite mundane made dramatic with filters, I want to see how the lack of colour can be a focus of your shot.

Usual rules apply: No NSFW and no shots you didn't take yourself.

Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Man, this week seriously got away on me. The only photos I managed to take this week were either work related, or photos of things I needed to remember Hopefully this weekend will be a bit calmer.

This week I already have an idea of what I want to shoot and it's going to require me to get out of the house, which is kind of the whole point, at least for me.

This week, the prompt is: something that looks like a face, but isn't

The same rules apply, namely, it has to be your own photo and it can't be NSFW but otherwise, go nuts 😁

Welcome to the first ever lemmy.nz photo challenge! Also the first time I've tried anything like this so bear with me while I make it up as I go along. With any luck I'll find some prompts that'll fit everyone but definitely chip in if you have ideas or have run forum challenges before.

Rules? Rules! (but not many)

  • It has to be a shot that you've taken yourself, I guess. There are posts all over the net sharing other peoples' efforts but this is more about doing it yourself.
  • No NSFW, since that tends to open all sorts of issues around content control and this is meant to be a bit of fun.

Okay, we're starting off with a cliche this week, because I'm all for easing into things:

#Prompt for 20/10: Spring

I've never done cover pages before, my entries have always just run on one from the next, but I fell into the habit of doing a doodle calendar, then it expanded to two pages, then I needed to fill a blank page so the calendar would be on a single spread...

You know, the usual evolution of journaling, haha.

I really wish I knew more about this stuff, but every time I switch from Local to Subscribed Malwarebytes gives me a popup warning me that lemmy.world is compromised and blocked (even though I'm still seeing posts from communities there) but that's all it's telling me. Should I be avoiding that instance?

When I remember I add bits and pieces to my journal (I go through stages and then forget to collect stuff). I mostly use double-sided tape from the paint department at my local hardware store but I have a bottle of clear Elmers glue too, since I've seen that recommended quite a bit.

I used the glue to add some business cards from a local restaurant, only they were gloss cards and the glue gave out completely within a week, leaving a nice glossy expanse of nothing.

What do you use to add things to your journal? Any brand you swear by, or would avoid like the plague?

I think it was only the second time I've sat down to stitch this year so have a bit of catching up to do! Pattern is A Crazy Wonderful Owl Family by HAED.
