IPA's are quick and easy and if you mess up and make a poor tasting beer, it's gonna get covered up by whatever flavors you put in it anyway.
The other beers take skill.

Yeah, as a fan of red ales, i don't drink beer much anymore...
Them even more soon, once the style gets smaller than sours your chance of finding it on a tap are slim.
Luckily I found a brewery nearish here that has stunningly good barrel-aged imperial stouts. Unfortunately they're nearly $20 a bottle, so I can only afford to go on special occasions. They're worth the cost though, good gods.
They look really good. Too bad Maines so far away.
Yeah, that's a bit much of a trek. Could probably get a bottle or even a set shipped there though, if you ever felt sufficiently self-indulgent.
