I keep seeing the idea of the Democrats forcing a government shutdown over the debt ceiling as one of the few ways to fight what is going on.

It just keeps going through my mind that Trump/Musk aren't following any rules or laws as it is, they're breaking every valid security rule there is as it is.

So, what would a shutdown do other than give them carte blanche to fuck shit up while all the federal workers have to go home without pay?

Musk has the wealth to just keep paying the people he wants to keep fucking shit up out of his own pockets. If all the federal workers are sent home, who is even going to do the dance of trying to stand in their way?

Isn't that more dangerous?

I feel like maybe there's more that I'm not understanding about the situation, but at the same time it feels like all bets are off and Musk is going to do whatever the fuck he wants no matter what is happening.

Nothing at all except the threat of violent revolt from the people. Keep the protests up. In fact, increase the intensity.

Sadly, they are hoping for a violent revolt from the people, because that means they can call the military in to murder civilians

Thats why these blackout protests are so important. Dont spend a fucking dime. Its time to revolutionize revolutions.

I'm thinking we might really need to push for a General Strike.

If March 15 doesn't work out, three of the largest unions are having contract negotiations which happen to be happening around May 1st, Mayday, or Labor Day for the rest of the civilized world. They're pushing for a strike amongst the three and I think it would be a great time to get everyone else on board. May is far enough away for organizing still, although it feels like May is waiting too long in some ways. But perhaps by May things will be so bad others can be convinced to join.

The problem is, there are no good options.

The coup perpetrators aren't doing it for federal money (at the moment), and they would be happy to have more of the money not be spent.

At the same time, Democrats can't sit idly and do nothing.

At the same time, Democrats can’t see idly and do nothing.

Here's what the Democrats currently have the power to do:

The funny thing is, when Biden had Congress people were making this same excuse.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Because you still need the Senate. The GOP almost always votes as one since it's almost always about benefiting the rich. When the Democrats "had power" they had 2 ~~Republicans~~ "Democrats" that would always vote against them whenever it was something that would help people that aren't billionaires.

I wish I wasn't an atheist so I could believe Manchin and Sinema would rot in hell when they die. :/

LOL

Where have you been the last three weeks?

The words "Dems are powerless" shouldn't even cross your mind after what you've seen, unless you're gaslighting yourself.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

That's something. By which I mean it's not nothing.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 days ago

sad thing is that's exactly what they're doing. Schumer said at the beginning of the term that the dems were gonna comply with everything, and when everyone called them and told them to grow a spine, schumer whined about how people wanted him to do something

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 days ago

Bullets. Bullets would work to stop it.

Musk's wealth is almost all tied up in his company's stocks. That is not money he is free to spend, like the money in your checking account. If he starts yanking it to fund super projects, investors panic, begin downward spiral.

Of course quantity is a quality all it's own. So there's that.

tl;dr: Even Musk isn't rich enough to cut paychecks for federal worker's pay.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

He just takes loans against the stock. He doesn't have to sell the stock.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sure bro.

That's why Tesla crashed when he paid for Twitter in cash.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He didn't.

He got people like the owner of Oracle, TikTok owner Binance, and others to foot some of the bill.

1: I am begging you to do some extremely basic arithmetic on your article.

2: You mean you can use your property that "isn't real money" as collateral for loans on a moments notice to raise literal billions? I was completely unaware of this.

Honestly with the DOJ entirely in Trump's camp there's nothing stopping them from doing anything at all. At least nothing that wouldn't force every military personnel to storm the White House.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Fun fact. The government employees still get paid while on a shutdown.

This is the first I'm hearing of this as well but who knows. Maybe it is a good idea. But the maga Nazis are actually 100% in love with musk as well and blindly follow him now. It's actually disturbing how they think Elon is "fighting against fraud". So if Dems do force a shut down, idk republicans are so well brainwashed they would believe something along the lines of "we need to take over the white house and remove all Dems because they're terrorists and are stopping the country from working and staying open" and trump will say "radical left" and then Nazi riots would happen all over the place. And democratic officials might actually start begin to be slaughtered.

This is, though, a hypothetical absolute worst outcome. Realistically, people will cry on social media about democrats while other will cry on social media about republicans. But I think Dems should do this plan.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nazi riots would happen all over the place.

In States with Democratic governors and Blue states with RINO governors, those riots will get suppressed with the state National Guard

And democratic officials might actually start begin to be slaughtered.

Nah, they got their own bodyguards, that and their state law enforcement and National Guard, they're safe. Jan 6 only went that far because the person with authority over the DC national guars was himself the orchestrator of the plot. And neighboring state National Guard cannot (legally) cross states lines without permission.

“Legally” doesn't matter anymore for anyone rich and red.

Also, they don't get paid while its shutdown, only after the shutdown they get the backpay, And before 2019, they didn't even get the packpay.
