Dune 3, it has proven to be the most unique and revolutionary big sci fi films so far so im waiting for that.

I’ve just watched the three movies I was really looking forward to. The only film that has topped all 3 in how excited I am to watch is 28 years later, which I will be rebooking a seat for at the cinema as soon as I can. Not much is known about the film yet but I love to imagine they are gonna really lean into the folk horror vibe I got from the trailer. Here’s hoping.
- The Electric State
- 28 Years Later
- Mickey 17
- Warfare
- Dune III
- The Batman II
- 28 Years Later
- Mission Impossible Final Reckoning
- Werwulf
- The yet untitled Jordan Peele film
Somewhere in the future (maybe):
- Del Torros Frankenstein
- Zhaos Dracula
- Villeneuves Cleopatra
Whatever happened to Eggers "The Knight"?
Captain America and Thunderbolts are looking sweet to me.
Don’t bother with your why-marvel-sucks arguments I’ve heard em all and I don’t care.
I stopped reading comics in 1991 but picked up a month of Marvel Unlimited during the reddit API freakout. I was surprised how much I liked the Thunderbolts.
I cancelled my subscription a few years ago when I inherited a bunch of trades to read. I’m done all the ones I was interested in now, maybe I should sub again..
You should read Peter David’s run on X-Factor, when they’re a PI company. Probably the best run I found on there during my 5 year subscription. :)
Mickey 17 for me and Dog Man for the kids.
Mickey 17 & The Battle of Baktan Cross
Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Event Film
Tron: Ares
Oh! They are doing another Tron?
Oh... Jared Leto? Ew. Nevermind.
Trent Reznor is doing the soundtrack, so it's gonna sound awesome at least
This is the only reason I’m looking forward to this. I was disappointed they weren’t nominated for Challengers
Well there is that! Hands down the best thing to come out of the 2nd movie was a new Daft Punk album.
I am not really sold on this one, as I think they are going to lose what made Tron so special, and it was the effects. They were just mind blowing at the time, and then the effects for Tron Legacy were up there, not as mindblowing, but they seem to have done their homework. They are really going to have to work to keep up the 'legacy'. The soundtracks for both movies were also spectacular, so another very high bar they will have to get to as well. I will keep an open mind, but am not that optimistic at this point.
The 3 i look forward to the most (2025 releases only)
-
"A Big Bold Beautiful Journey": Directed by Kogonada, who made some of my favorite movies (Columbus and After Yang), Colin Farrell and Phoebe Waller-Bridge? Sign me up
-
"Warfare": With Alex Garlands track record that's another no brainer to me
-
"Mickey 17": I'm a sucker for good science fiction. Directed by Bong Joon-ho with Robert Pattinson and Steven Yeun? Yep that does it.
Honorable mentions:
-
Avatar 3: For the visual spectacle and will certainly go watch it on the best screen possible.
-
"Tron: Ares": Not a huge fan of Jared Leto, but he also isn't a dealbreaker. He was in the new Bladerunner and that one turned out well anyways.
-
"Frankenstein" by Guillermo del Toro should come out this year and sounds interesting
-
"Death of a Unicorn": Purely based on the premise
-
"28 years later": Actually still haven't come around to watch 28 Weeks Later, but liked 28 days.
Also looking forward to watching "the Brutalist", but that was already released, just haven't come around to watching it yet. And ofc there are plenty of movies far out like the next Christopher Nolan movie, but that isn't coming this year.
edited in avatar, because I forgot we get one this year
I loved Civil War a lot, so Warfare is high up on my list
I was going to say, Avatar 3 is this year? 🤯
Looking at the list here:

I still haven't seen Nosferatu, I still want to sit down and re-watch a good version of the original first. Probably won't happen until it's all on home video.
I didn't know Star Trek: Section 31 was a MOVIE, I thought it was a streaming show... But I'll watch Michelle Yeoh do anything.
Becoming Led Zeppelin in IMAX should be fascinating.
Captain America: Brave New World - What can I say? I'm a giant comic book nerd.
One Night in Tokyo looks promising, but I get the feeling this is just "Lost in Translation" again.
The Gorge sounds fun, but only Apple TV+
Cleaner - ? Man, I haven't seen Clive Owen in AGES!
Old Guy - Looks like RED only with Christoph Waltz
That's pretty much it through February...
In the Lost Lands - Not interested, but the description sounds legitimately INSANE.
"A queen hires a sorceress for werewolf powers but pays a price. Warrior Sharra fights a dragon to find her lover, seduced by a lord who's the real gatekeeper. A barbarian girl falls for a deceitful witch's promises in a spacecraft."
WTF did I just read?
"Who's Involved:
Paul W.S. Anderson, Dave Bautista, Milla Jovovich, Amara Okereke, Arly Jover, Deirdre Mullins, Simon Lööf, Fraser James"
If you have never seen any version of Nosferatu, I recommend just watching the newest one. I watched the black and white one the day before going to the new one and found myself bored for most of the movie as it basically follows the original, which already isn’t that interesting of a story (IMO of course.
I didn’t know Star Trek: Section 31 was a MOVIE, I thought it was a streaming show…
It's a streaming movie, I suspect they downgraded it from a series at some point.
“A queen hires a sorceress for werewolf powers but pays a price. Warrior Sharra fights a dragon to find her lover, seduced by a lord who’s the real gatekeeper. A barbarian girl falls for a deceitful witch’s promises in a spacecraft.”
Well I'm sold.
Although I can't match that description to the trailer, IMDb has something similar:
A queen, desperate to find happiness in love, takes a daring step: she sends the powerful and feared witch Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich) to the "Lost Lands" to give her the magical gift of turning into a werewolf. With the mysterious hunter Boyce (Dave Bautista), who supports her in the fight against dark creatures and merciless enemies, Gray Alys roams an eerie and dangerous world. And only she knows that every wish she grants has unimaginable consequences...
So it might be a garbled version of the plot or it gets a lot wilder and weirder.
I watched the trailer and I still have no idea what's going on...
George R.R. Martin is somehow involved? Is this why we don't have the next book yet?
George R.R. Martin is somehow involved? Is this why we don’t have the next book yet?
It's based on a 40 year short story (possibly three) of his and production has been ongoing since 2015. His involvement seems to have been minimal for decades. So we can't really blame his lateness on the film.
I guess I am an outlier as I don't see a single mention of the Minecraft Movie. I really want to see that.
On the one hand, I kinda do too. But on the other, I want it to preemptively go away.
I am just an old fart who plays minecraft, so I want to see all the little inside jokes. Fan of Jack Black so that is another reason. And I could use a good funny movie right about now.
I try and see every genre movie that makes the cinema and as many award contenders as possible.
I'm looking forward to:
- The Monkey
- Mickey 17
- Ballerina
- 28 Years Later
- Superman
- Fantastic Four
- Nobody 2
- Saw XI
- Tron: Ares
- The Black Phone 2
- Predator: Badlands
- The Running Man
- The Toxic Avenger
- A Quiet Place, Part III
I fancy a bit of Star Trek but it doesn't look like I have long to wait.
