Next week will have lots of political excitement going on, I'm sure. Despite that, hopefully you're having an OK week

I'm just over here preparing myself for our nation's gears of power to be handed over to an anti-democratic felon rapist and his party who historically only benefit the ultra-wealthy.

In other words, I'm looking into buying a firearm and protecting my assets.

Things are about to get a whole lot more desperate in this country.

looking into buying a firearm

For everyone thinking that: look into taking classes on how to shoot the thing BEFORE you buy it.

It's a lot harder than you might expect, and a gun does you no good if you cannot put two center mass if you ever have to use it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is why I wish guns were taught safety/training in like middle school. If they are gonna be part of society, fucking deal with it as a part of society.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They are around here. Hunter's safety courses are opt in, but since it's a no grade course that's swapped into gym/phys-ed, pretty much everyone opts in. I didn't have any personal use for it, I was raised shooting, and my grandfather was strict on safety. You fucked up, you might not get to shoot with him for a year or more. And if you weren't shooting with him, you weren't going to be shooting at all, nobody in the family would take you if he said you weren't ready.

But even the kids that didn't want to hunt would take the class because it was usually fairly fun compared to the crap we'd be stuck doing if we didn't take the class lol. When most of the kids were taking it, the coaches would just have people running laps so they didn't have to supervise as much.

Your story reminds me of my grandfather's dying words. "Quit shaking the ladder you little asshole!"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You know, my grandfather once fell out of a tree, broke multiple vertebrae, multiple ribs, an arm, a punctured lung and then drove himself over 150 miles home. Why home instead of the nearest hospital? Didn't want my grandmother to worry when she got a call from a hospital, and didn't want her to have to drive as far.

If I had shaken my grandfather's ladder, he likely would have gotten up and whacked me with a stick until I drove him home lol.

That's not bullshit, he actually did that. Damn near died because he waited so long to get help.

It was a different time people were a lot harder.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Amen to that

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Our felon President just launched a self-described memecoin. We are so fucked.

I was part of a mass layoff from my well-paying tech sales job, with no prospects lined up despite having been looking. Now I don't have a way to pay the emergency housing unit I'm in, could be homeless for the third time soon, this time unemployed. Trump is set to be inaugurated in less than 3 days.

fuck. i'm very sorry to hear it. it's so cold out too

Went to the Asian Supermarket and bought a lot of nice things. Tons of types of curry to try, but no neat KitKats this time they only have those sometimes.

The kitten is being good. As good as a kitten can be. Mothers cats are doing well. I had to go medicate her cat who accepted it. I said hello to the two boy cats there who ate the size of barges.

My teeth are in a great deal of pain but appointments are in ages. Grinding through weed gummies trying to survive.

Made chocolate chip banana bread. It's nice.

Sorry to hear it. That's so very US 😢 Hope the banana bread was good at least!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

The banana bread is extremely good, thank you! And the teeth are at a low roar now.

Meetup group I've been looking forward to joining turned out to be right-wingers. Not the worst experience this week but my gay ass trying to make friends while everyone laughs about leftists having no friends was uncomfortable.

Wore a mask at the request of an immunocompromised coworker and a customer immediately started making fun of me.

Trying to take the advice of an ex-friend and stop giving a shit what anyone thinks of me but it sucks that my entire country mocks me 24/7.

Not us on the Fediverse:-).

Just everyone else it seems:-(.

Oddly enough the Christian Bible commands a welcoming attitude from its followers - "love one another", "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you", and like even if for certain you were the one wrong (rather than them), "Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters." They are perverting their own supposed beliefs.

Regardless, remain true to yours, whatever they may be:-).

I wonder what will happen if a bunch of people lose their jobs all of a sudden. That worries me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If there's a critical mass, then we get into Something Must Be Done territory, and various levels of government will do what they can to handle it. Of course, that's if there's government left, so who knows 🤷

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

I dunno, Something Must Have Been Done about the pandemic too...

And the recent spout of inflation...

And the corruption in the Supreme Court, among other places.

And for women needing access to proper medical care...

For some, suffering seems to be the point, for others it's immaterial, leaving far too few to try to help.

But, that's a problem for next week.:-)

This week I made a little over $1000 on the stock market. I’m literally one stock. That’s $1000 profit. So I’d say I am doing pretty good.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So let's say I'm looking to try my luck, any advice for apps or services to trade on?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

I use Fidelity. I go directly through their app

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The stock market seems like it's going to be in for a bumpy ride soon. Quick highs, and quick lows.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Watch a stock. When it drops, buy it. Quick jump? Sell it.

I’ll buy on (for example) Tuesday and sell on Wed or Thursday.

If I don’t have a morning job I’d be able to buy morning and sell late morning

Volatility kicks ass when you’re trying to make money

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Surely you can't think it that simple...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Toss in checking the options. Checking to see if there is a chance of it going back up or down. Watching if an idiot ceo opens his big mouth and crashes stocks.

Check IONQ the last few weeks and see what I mean.

Lost a decent paying tech job a couple months ago. Not able to land anything. Finally applied for hospitality gig since it was my previous industry. Got the job, but they don't offer health insurance. Debating whether or not to just call it in and say no thanks...
