Near impossible on my tiny phone haha

[โ€“] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The hit boxes appear to be huge. I got it just by turning and shooting from the starting position.

Fun, but a relatively simple script could likely be developed to solve these.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I expected to have to do more than tap the fire button.

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you shoot from cover, some come to find you. Back into corner and rapid fire, not a great plan, but got it on about 6th try.

It's more that my phone is quite literally tiny. 3" screen, 480x854

Unihertz Jelly Star. I wanted a modern phone smaller than my pixel 3. Seemed to be the only viable option at the time. It's crazy how big phones are now, even the compact ones are bigger than what I class as a big phone

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

huh neat, I didn't know that was a thing! I'm tempted because I feel like I'd be less inclined to doomscroll on it, which seems like a feature rather than a bug.

it seems kinda thick though, do you think it's more comfy in a pocket despite that?

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's more comfy in the pants despite the thickness.

Think about how much a thin but big phone sticks out when placed on a cylinder. This has less surface area that's touching your leg so you barely feel it.

Doom scrolling can still happen on this phone like but it does make certain stuff just make me want to wait till I'm at a computer to do it instead, like shopping and whatnot. So I find that a plus, somewhat.

very late response but you sold me on it.

Sent from my Unihertz Jelly Star.

Oh nice, welcome to the club! If you ever have any questions about any quirks, fire away.

I think your first port of call is you haven't adjust is getting a better launcher. I find vertical scrolling ones work best for such a small screen. I got Niagara for mine, but there might be other alternatives out there.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

yeah I had been using Niagara on my pixel 6 but it's a little too effective for me, my main desire with getting this phone was for it to be less of a distraction so I went with before launcher and set it to text only, no icons.

so far it's been very good at doing what I need it to and then getting out of the way but I haven't had it for a full week yet so I'm not fully decided on it.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I wish my phone was a bit smaller, but it's already on par or smaller than most of the industry (Pixel 8).

No WASD, no strafe, not fair.

I got it by running around the imps and going for the grunts (all enemies are "monsters" in Doom)

[โ€“] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

Reposting from my other reply: There is strafe actually, even two ways of doing it, using original DOS bindings: < and > or alt + left/right arrow. For me the easiest way to do it without strafe is just to move forward a bit, then go back and wait for dudes to come in from the right. Dealing with imps is really hard since their fireballs are sped up significantly. I tried a bit more and it seems it's possible to actually beat this level properly. You can get other weapons and powerups. It's just really hard with speed mode and nightmare difficulty.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Honestly, the easiest way is to move forward a bit. The imps can't hit you, and the grunts will come toward you, so it becomes a shooting gallery instead of you being in a bullet hell.

[โ€“] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The awkward controls make it unfair.

... But then, IDKFA works

Which MEANS

An AI could totally cheat this.

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

An AI would play this better than any human.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But could it be made to differentiate a human from an AI?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Maybe, unless the AI pretends to suck.

[โ€“] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I love it, but can't get the keyboard to display on mobile

[โ€“] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago

It didn't work on chrome for me, but does on Firefox.

[โ€“] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

I just tapped it and it showed one

[โ€“] the16bitgamer 1 points 1 month ago

Works in Safari

[โ€“] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

Had to bait them into coming towards me, many deaths before I managed tho. Still better than most captchas

[โ€“] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Too many imps in the center square. Too easy to just get ganged with fireballs. I found that I needed to hang out in the hallway and get the marines that were coming in.

WTF? Is this Nightmare difficulty? Just how many enemies are crammed in the hallways here.

I get that this is a joke project. But, if you were to reduce the difficulty to some common denominator, it could actually be a viable CAPTCHA. Then again, there's already good AI bots that could dominate this.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It is Nightmare difficulty, on a hidden level as well.

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

No strafe. Ughhh

[โ€“] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago

Not only nightmare, it's also -fast. Click how it works in the bottom of the page.

[โ€“] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

doom without sidestep? no thanks

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's a bit of a secret feature, but there is strafe actually, even two ways of doing it, using original DOS bindings: < and > or alt + left/right arrow.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I am on mobile but will try on computer

[โ€“] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

That was surprisingly difficult.

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

This is fucking amazing

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Idk why you say i would need patience. I cleared it under 5 seconds. Maybe i had good RNG.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

RNG in doom, that's illegal :D

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Why does it have to be on a hard level with just a pistol, tho? lol I turned the first corner and was obliterated by imp fireballs before I knew what map I was on.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I beat it by kiting some of the shotgunners to come past the imps. 3 Easy kills.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I tried going straight, but after a while I noticed there's actually an invisible pinky over there.

Also is the sound too high, or is it just me not rememberering right?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

The sounds are completely different and I'm not sure where they're sourced from.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is there any strategy for this level apart from kiting the enemies into your line of sight while you are shielded from the centre cube? Maybe the WAD could be tweaked. Cool project though!

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

One fun and moderately easy strategy is running into forward tunnel all the way down into the pit, killing a sergeant for a shotgun, running through acid into the room with health and pickups on the left, and then killing 2 more imps. PS: I'm doing it with strafe through (< and > or alt + arrows).

[โ€“] ICastFist 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Took me 2 tries, advanced a bit, retreated and waited for the dudes to walk into my line of pistol fire

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

This is the way. You only need 3 kills, so there's no need to deal with the caged grunts in any way whatsoever.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Well I think I'm a robot. Couldn't do the things that it's asking me to do. So I guess I'm a robot. Beeboo beeboo boop beeboo beeboo bee boop.
