Are you sure it's not because you've had to pay billions of dollars in settlements for priests raping children?

Are you sure that's not why?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I don’t think the victims are getting paid that much. Our society has gone from “if someone powerful did something to you then you did something wrong” to “okay maybe they were wrong for that” but we’re still a ways away from “and they should pay a real price.”

Have they tried institutionally raping children and covering it up for decades if not centuries?

Oh, they have... Darn.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 15 hours ago

Maybe donating and praying to your favorite imaginary sky buddy doesn't actually solve anything.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 15 hours ago

Sell some of that gold they've bought and or stolen in the last millenia or two.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Even if this is true, 2025 is a jubilee year. There will be so many pilgrims to the Vatican and donations would skyrocket

[–] [email protected] 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The Pope should just issue a Papal Bull that God has forgiven the Vatican's debts. And their creditors won't be able to argue, as he's literally infallible.

Now there’s a political crisis that would be fun to watch unfold!

I’m tired of all this current stuff that seems to destroy lives as it unfolds.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 12 hours ago

Can we get a good old fashioned pope/antipope fight while we're at it? Two claimants to the throne of St. Peter, and the first act of each is to excommunicate the other!

[–] [email protected] 12 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Could this really be? After nearly two thousands years of Catholic Church they are finally brought to their knees.

Good riddance to bad garbage.

Start selling off your nazi gold.

[–] [email protected] 92 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Bullshit. They own more land than damn near any other entity on the planet. The whole celibacy thing was so the priest could not take the church owning and give them to non-church kids.

Hurting for money? Sell some land. Then pay for the abuse lawsuits some more.

Exactly plus the millions in treasure they have under the Vatican.

Are these bastards really thinking we are going to believe their mafia like enterprise is supported by charitable donations?

[–] [email protected] 134 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Good for them, I guess?

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But, but The eye of a needle was a market with a small gate and if you only had a reasonable load on your camels then they could pass through so it's actually ok for rich people to exist /s

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

That cope from Conservative Christians™️ is always funny. Similar statements show up in the Talmud. A large animal passing through the eye of a needle was a common idiom in Jewish culture at the time to demonstrate impossibility.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wish they had just said, “look bro, I don’t even need an idiom. I’m just going to tell you. If you’re rich, you’re going to Hell. You can’t exploit people and hoard resources and be in God’s good graces at the same time. Just being rich means that you’re ok walking by misery and not helping. Bro, you can’t have it like that.”

[–] [email protected] 16 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You'd still have wealthy Christians being like "okay, but what did Jesus mean by this?"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 19 hours ago

You’re absolutely right haha.

“I flicked a nickel to a hobo today. Streets uh’ gode!”

[–] [email protected] 4 points 20 hours ago

It's a mistranslation of "sturdy rope", which indeed would not pass through the eye of a needle.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It’s cool, he ain’t playing it right anyway. He won’t get famous and change the world the way he’s doing it.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

C'mon, he's doing his best.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 16 hours ago

It's really hard to do without opposable thumbs!

Those grifters have had a good run for two millenia. As scams go, I'd say it was pretty successful - and still is, sadly.

[–] [email protected] 106 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (7 children)

Perhaps they should sell off some of the tons and tons of gold stuff they have.

Is the Vatican for sale?

[–] [email protected] 96 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Paying out legal claims and bribes from all the sexual abuse scandals are not cheap.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 14 hours ago

Child rape. They're broke from paying for unimaginable amounts of child rape.

[–] [email protected] 44 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm sure if they switched from molesting kids they could make some money jerking off grown men

Just ask god for money? I mean, isn't it omnisicent and omnipotent?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 day ago

Oh, no. Guess they'll have to sell some of those golden trinkets they have
