Mmmmmmm burned roof of mouth, flesh seared and picking away at it with my tongue = good meal

Can we please stop spreading this myth? While tasty, it's been scientifically proven that searing and eating the roof of your mouth is a poor nutritional choice as it lacks any substantial source of carbohydrates and fibre on its own.

Make sure to always prepare a side dish.

Lmao, yea it's the last step on the package of just about every microwaveable food I've seen

I legitimately did not thought about 'microwaveable food', I legit thought there was some sort of wacky health benefit to just stand there for 3 minutes before eating anything My brain is rotten

Oh yeah on Microwaved food that makes sense. Especially if you heated it up at 100% power. The outside is hot, but the inside is still cold. Letting it stand for a few minutes evens out the temperature.

I usually just heat the food fully, then grab what else I need to eat it before heading to a table to eat it, and that's usually enough time to even out.

Yes, I'm curious if it's because food companies actually got sued by people burning themselves, or if it was just thought of ahead of time.

It's more likely a similar reason why you would let a cut of meat rest after taking it off heat. It allows the heat to even out and finish cooking.

To be clear, in addition to what others said, 'stand' here refers to letting it cool off for 3 minutes or so before eating.

I know when I carve turkey / chicken I need to let it cool slightly or it just crumbles. I figured the same was true of things like microwaveable lasagne, let it set or it’ll turn to slop

I've realized (well, accepted that the recipe is right), that you should let certain salads marinate before eating them. Completely different flavor.

There's a place in Chicago called Al's Beef. You stand while you eat. You probably need it with their sandwiches though
