Dated: 2024-08-03. Added: 2024-08-03. Edit: Gift link added. Edit (2024-08-04): The New York Times altered the title from “Trump Agrees to a Fox News Debate With Harris on Sept. 4” to “Trump Proposes a Fox News Debate With Harris on Sept. 4” to “Trump Cancels a Debate With Harris on ABC News and Pitches One With Fox News Instead”, presumably because the original misleadingly implied agreement with and consent from Kamala Harris for the change in venue (ABC News to Fox News).

a proposal that has not yet been accepted by the Harris campaign.

Not confirmed by the Harris campaign or Fox News at this point. Why are we reporting Trump's garbage social media spew as factual?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It just said Trump agreed, didn't say anything about Harris agreeing, it's a clickbait headline, that's all

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

But that implies he agreed to something someone else proposed. No one says that someone agrees with themselves when they make a statement

You mean the propaganda network who just couple of days ago said “if you are a man who vote for women, you have transitioned into women? IT’S SCIENCE”

WOW, what a great venue for “debate”!

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 month ago (3 children)

It fucking sucks that the Democrats keep bending over backwards for this shitbag. Why does he get to pick the venue?

[–] [email protected] 80 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

He doesn’t. Harris campaign has not responded. This is just Trump’s wishful thinking.

Edit: Headline misleads with the phrase "agrees to." That suggests that there has been an "agreement" between the two parties. There has not. This is Trump's "proposal."

Trump Proposes a Fox News Debate ...

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 month ago

NYT misleading with headline phrasing????

Nooooooooooo.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Same reason death row inmates get to pick their last supper, I presume

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Did you read the article?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

whoof this is a terrible idea for kamala, fox is litteraly the belly of the beast enemy territory, trump will always find a way, this time with the help of his friends at fox, to decimate his opponent. this is as equally bad an idea as it was for biden to agree to "debate" trump at all. no one "debates" Donald Trump, he's a bully, on television, with no rules, they are his victims.

this is a terrible fucking idea.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm not so sure. You're right that nobody "debates" Trump, but you do get to get onstage and launch attacks at him if you're smooth and know what you're doing.

Fox being the venue is a little meh though, I agree the questions will probably have a strong slant.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The questions would have a slant like a sheer fucking cliff. The audience would be hand picked by MAGA, Inc. There would be absolutely no gain to a "debate" on fox "news".

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Usually things like audience representation and format are negotiated by the two campaigns before the debate is fully agreed to.

I think it's a rare chance to reach the Fox audience with things they don't often encounter due to their media bubbles.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I mean Fox, if anything, will be predictable in their approch. This isn't unwinnable.

"Man being assassinated drives knife into own stomach"

I bet he can't make himself look good even on home turf at this point.

It's an emotionally stunted narcissist that loves to talk vs a prosecutor. He'll go over time, Kamala will wave her hand a little as if it's cool, she'll get the mic and seek clarification, and when Trump is talking on her time the camera will pan over to her while she's looking through it as if she's on the Office while he spends 2 minutes trying to re-explain 'Black Jobs'

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fox won't do that to him. For every overtime ramble nothing would happen. They'd shorten Harris' response times to make up for it "for the sake of time". And of course no fact checking and lob up easy questions for him with hard convoluted questions for her and no overtime allowed. I wouldn't put it beyond them to interrupt her mid answer or just switch to Trump when he does one of his interruption "tactics".

Trump's whole schtick is to latch onto a red herring and run off deep into left field with it and make that the focal point, but the thing is that he's lately been doing that kind of thing in a really bizarre manner (Hannibal Lector? wtf), so the more he talks, the better for Kamala. He's starting to push it so far it's all falling off the table and instead of just alienating undecides he's starting to alienate moderate supporters. edit: dude has been coming off as 'weird' to his own lately

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Maybe but Fox's whole thing has been to amplify "bad takes" and otherwise make unreasonable things sound good from the right wing while posing anything left wing and reasonable as sounding bad.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

True, but at the same time his base has spent the past 5 years hyperfocusing on Biden's age and gaffes. I even know a Trump voter that's going for Kamala this time because she apparently looks like she'd be tougher on crime, and Vance wears makeup (lol). What a time to be alive

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

My only concern is when she gets flustered sometimes she blurts something out off the dome that she really shouldn’t. The line about not trusting a vaccine from the Trump admin in 2020 comes to mind immediately - very kneejerk, poorly considered response.

Trump is allowed to make 100 of these a minute. By virtue of being a woman of color she isn’t. It’s fucked but it’s true. She really, really needs to avoid that kind of response. He’s on a temper tantrum right now and she looks like the adult in the room. It’s one of her best strengths going into this election and she needs to protect that image.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Same goes for any woman of color. Right relentlessly attacked Fani Willis and slandered her all over for being in a relationship with a divorced man - at the same time nominating a convicted rapist and serial cheater to be their party leader.

Hypocrisy is their brand. It is up to us - those who are not in a cult - to reject these attacks and not allow mainstream media to run with them. FUCK THE PROPAGANDA AND VOTE.

The current link is not a gift link.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

For a cable network, which by their own admission is an "entertainment" show and no "reasonable viewer" would take them seriously...

Why are they even allowed to host political debates?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Same for CNN now too. John Malone is a Trump fan boy.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

CNN already teetering during the Trump years, has gone full Dark Side, I removed their headlines from my social media feeds, it's incredible, just complete self interest and greed, and another "news" organization working towards a fascist dystopia, actively assisting those who would end free speech and free press, their owners and shareholders betting they can get out with as much value as possible before the fascists end them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The DNC desire for “debate” will never be anything but incredible to me. Why? Why, DNC?

“Swing voters”? “Outlining of policies”? “Reasoned discussion”?

Trump has murdered all of these things. In front of your faces. Many times!

Just . . . Don’t.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They still think facts and reason matter more to people than gut feelings and peer pressure.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

They don't understand the modern GQP is very literally a cult, with the attendant cult mindset. "Debate" is just performative vitriol in their eyes.
