meme, and reality. (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Hello guys, I'm curious about this meme, is there some literature where I can find someguides to test this? Thanks.

You wouldn't pay for 4k Netflix and then download a Chromebook recovery image in order to extract the aarch64 widevine com blobs and then patch in support for 16k pages and then apply miscellaneous glibc compat workarounds and then spoof your useragent, and install a browser extension to unlock HD resolutions, to legally watch media in only 1080p

At the moment your service becomes even marginally more difficult than piracy, yo ho yo ho. What am I paying you for?

[–] [email protected] 27 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Every single "service" out there is more difficult than Stremio. Exception might be non-english content

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

In concept. Every single time I've tried to use it I've had issues. The movies stop constantly, files become unreachable for some indiscernible reason preventing me from continuing from the same source, the app bugs out like crazy, some things aren't all that easy to find, the quality isn't always great or there's weird stuff like embedded subtitles or watermarks.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

I genuinely thought it was just me but yeah this has always been the case for me. Neat concept but I think that living in the middle of nowhere with crappy internet makes it impossible to use for me.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (8 children)

So I just install the app, sign up, and I can start watching whatever?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

you will need to install the torrentio addon and have a vpn. a debrid service isn't needed

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (2 children)

You'll need to install the torrentio add-on.

You should use a VPN, but it will work without one.

You can use a debrid provider and remove the other stremio addons you don't use. I've never bothered, and to be honest I don't even really understand what debrid is.

except Ukrainian for some reason. I've had a lot of issues with english, polish and russian content, but Cloudstream3 with cloudstreak-extensions-uk never ever stopped working and has all of the content i care for, with high quality dubs from either the source or local tv channels (both sound as good as the og English va)

I am not as worried about DMCA as the author is lol

Dear, OP

Kindly go fuck thine self.

Yours truly, This dyslexic idiot.

You might have already figured it out, but it says

You wouldn't pay for 4k Netflix and then download a Chromebook recovery image in order to extract the aarch64 widevine com blobs and then patch in support for 16k pages and then apply miscellaneous glibc compat workarounds and then spoof your useragent, and install a browser extension to unlock HD resolutions, to legally watch media in only 1080p

Also I don't think OP made the meme, I think they're just wanting to know more (as am I). Like, what's the drama? Why'd someone make the meme? It implies Netflix only lets you watch things in 1080p on a PC if you apply a bunch of workarounds (presumably to make the site think you're a TV or something).

They limit the resolution on linux and even getting 1080p as a paying customer is very hard.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They also limit it on other platforms, if you use anything other than ~~Internet Explorer~~ Edge. Since Microsofts browser is the only one to include the Silverlight DRM plugin.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Silverlight DRM plugin

Wtf, hadn’t heard of that

It's a blog post on how to get Netflix and Spotify to work on Asahi Linux, the project to run Linux on new "M" chipsets 64bits Arm apple computers. Their solution (and widevine hack) is now integrated in the Fedora Linux Asahi Remix project' default distro. You still have to do the user agent mod tho.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Thanks I will check it out!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

It all works quite smoothly ; the install process is a breeze of a single .sh script to run directly from macos. The amount of software available for Arm64 is surprising, tho gamers will be disappointed there's no Vulkan / Steam available yet.

That "Default" install is really just Fedora, shipped with KDE for it's superior handling of fractional scaling. There's the dnf package manager, flatpaks, the works.

I'm 80~90% of the time on the Asahi side of things on my device. Showstoppers today are sleep battery drain (50% a day) and pure "ooomph" - performance of an M2Pro chip is more akin to a 12th gen i7 than the same chip under macos. Rendering in kdenlive or blender is noticeably slower on Asahi. But it's a huge reverse-engineering undertaking, and it will be getting better.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I understood more than half of that. I feel so smart.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Thank you for sharing this information.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

You are correct I didn't make the meme, I'm looking for the technical background .

[–] [email protected] 49 points 7 months ago

I'm really glad to see that text transcriptions of image posts are much more common here than on other sites, but clearly still not common enough.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Hey Sabee363, I didn't make the meme. I'm diging into this technologies because im paying for my grandma and last night I started remembering this topic, I'mhighly addictive to low level technology and I like to play with systems.

Partner, sorry if I don't transcribed. Have a nice day/evening/night.

Your totally fine, I was mostly poking fun at how much of a nightmare things like this can be to read. I was probably a bit heavy handed with my comment though, sorry. Might've also been stoned and forgot to finish what I was trying to say, lol.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

No problem my friend, I will count on this for the next time. Thanks for making me notice.

I enjoyed reading this a lot. thanks for sharing

[–] [email protected] 28 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Turns out I don't even care about all that content that much.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 months ago

Absolutely. My wife flew to her parent place with our toddler and I dont have any idea on what to watch.

All I'm watching is nursery rhymes since they're catchy as all hell.

That was a wild ride!

I would wear this on a T-shirt.

Yeah that's a lot of work. That's why I just sail the high seas and put stuff on Plex.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 7 months ago

Too much effort, sailing the high seas is so much easier

[–] [email protected] 12 points 7 months ago

Well that was a ride.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago (7 children)

I can't believe people even bother with 1080P let alone 4K. Is there unlimtied bandwidth where you all live?

In my part of the world anything above 480p is just asking for a bad time, with no actual improvement on your ability to enjoy the story.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 7 months ago

Hmm I can’t decide if this is a joke or if I’m just very privileged in the internet department

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago (10 children)

Most people in developed countries have internet that can support HD resolutions, yes. Mine even does, and our building's wiring is original to the 50s.

I agree and I live in Germany and have good internet. Story beats resolution any time

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (3 children)

It depends what you are watching it on I suppose. If you're streaming content on a phone, then 480p is probably acceptable to most people. But if your connection can support a higher resolution without buffering issues, then why wouldn't you? Especially if you're watching something on a TV or large monitor, it'll look terrible in 480p.

Edit: I'm assuming when I said "why wouldn't you?" that you have unlimited data. Obviously if you have a data cap then that's a different story.

Feel you m8, where i live we are stuck for the most part with 10Mbit/s at most, an that's the high end stuff.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Gigabit internet with no cap so yes. Also I'm used to 1080p so anything lower feels bad tbh
