...what does the report actually say?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Go to page 28. It validates the claim. They make a fraction of a cent more than white people per dollar. Something like .00007 cents more.

Firstly, I don't see why Microsoft lauds itself for its DEI initiatives based on a thousandth of a cent per $1000. Secondly, I also don't see why anyone would make anything out of this. It costs more to talk shit about it.

Actually it’s an impressive achievement. It shows parity.

No parity. People with similar skills and similar jobs should be paid similar money. Historically that hasn’t be true in tech. Black people were paid less. I looked at my own companies study and they had to do adjustment to get it to parity. Black workers from similar schools were paid less than their white peers with similar experience. While the company I work for pushes dei hard, they wanted to make sure everyone was paid fairly for their work and not skin color.

Equity means having the same outcome. In this case, pay.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

No, equity is about paying people the same even if they don't meet the standard.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Equity is about paying people the same.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago

No, that isn't true at all. Looks at the boxes in the cartoon.

Equality is giving everyone the same box. That is what Microsoft did.

Equity: they give people more boxes, but that isn't what Microsoft did.

Are you trying to argue that Microsoft shouldn't black people the same as white people?

[–] [email protected] -3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Here is a cartoon I hate but it shows the difference.

https://interactioninstitute.org/illustrating-equality-vs-equity/

What Microsoft did is give everyone that same box. That is parity. That is equality.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

The boxes do not represent money in the picture. They represent opportunity, ie infrastructure and legal system.

Lol you missed a part you would have seen if you actually read the document Microsoft released.

Specifically, for employees in the US who are eligible for rewards, the September 2023 median unadjusted pay analysis shows that the total pay for Asian employees is 94.7%; for Black and African American employees is 78.2%; and for Hispanic and Latinx employees is 83.5% of the total pay for white employees.

Nice try though.

The report does show minorities are paid more. Page 28.

It’s insignificant through. Since many things go into pay such as skill, experience, etc, I don’t see anything concerning.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

If it's statistically insignificant, then it means they're paid the same.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 8 months ago (2 children)

What’s funny is if the lefties read the article, they would be upvoting this. It’s basically showing pay parity which is pretty impressive. That’s a goal of the left.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The misleading headline is what's getting downvoted.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The headline is accurate from the site it came from but it’s rage bait. If you read the report, it shows near parity in pay which is what everyone should strive for. People doing the same job with similar experience should have make similar money if they produce similar results.

Some just like liberals, some conservatives are hyper focused on race. Personally I support equality as stated above.

To sum it up, it’s a rage bait title

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

it’s a rage bait title

So then don't act surprised it got downvoted.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago (2 children)

That's the goal of everyone. I don't know a single person who doesn't want to paid fairly for the work they do.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 8 months ago

Well some people are downvoting, so it appears not everyone agrees with us that equal pay is a good thing.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I dont know about you, but I want to take every penny I can, fair or not.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Lol, and you're the reason why companies have to put programs like this into effect. Folks that are much better than you at their jobs are getting less money because of sex or skin color. You and those like you are ruining it for everyone else with that "fuck you, I got mine" attitude.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 8 months ago

That is why I liked that it showed some parity.

People should be paid similar for similar work. Historically black employees were paid less with equal experience and education.

So I’m happy Microsoft is leveling the pay scale. The next step is to get people to talk about their wages.
