This is a good game. I need to finish it but God damn the difficulty spikes hard at certain points. It was basically not even challenging until I got to like the 3rd or 4th boss and then it became harder than Dark Souls. The references and humor are off the chain, though. They not only have analogues to popular SCPs, they reference their own games like Alan Wake and Max Payne in both story and game mechanics and it's awesome.

Also: I feel bad for the dude who had to keep his eyes on that fridge. So close to being rescued...

They don't just reference Alan Wake. Alan Wake and Control are literally in the same universe.

There's a DLC that connects the two together, and there will probably have a lot of connections to Control in Alan Wake 2. I'm sure that's part of the reason for the sale.

The way they reference Max Payne is the same. Perhaps all Remedy games are in the same universe.

Pro tip. Upgrade launch damage, made the game a ton easier. There’s also Gameplay assistances if it’s feeling a bit too difficult. I used this for the Alan Wake DLC .

It's mostly the non-humanoid bosses that take a few tries just to understand their attack patterns. The humanoid dudes got spongey, but I haven't died to them yet. There's also the RNG upgrade bits that can make it easier or harder. I got lucky and have basically infinite ammo and I gain back health as I deal damage with those. It just doesn't help when you die because the Eldritch horror you have to look up at to make sure you're not slapped is also breaking the floor below you and you fall through into the void. lol

Totally just a skill issue on my part.

Yeah I had to grind a bit once I got stuck, and then it went by pretty easily. I went into the dlcs to grind.

Little tip for the difficulty spikes; use the built in assist mode. It doesn't effect achievements or progress, and it lets you adjust stamina, health, aim assist, and even just say screw it and turn on god mode.
