We can't pretend this is just a Lemmy issue. But I agree with your sentiment.

Yup. Except the report button goes nowhere.

Try doing it via the browser instead of using the app and it should work!
That just sends it to the moderator of that community, which in some cases will be the same user (like OP) or users who behave like them. There really needs to be a "Report to Admin" function, for both users and communities.
Wouldn't the report just go to the moderator, who can disregard it?
Or more accurately, go to the mod in question who will turn around and pepper me with abuse.
To my understanding, admins gets all reports too. But that also means they’re getting hundreds of reports

I agree. Discord has been dealing with these for a long time while the servers have to have entire free or paid mod teams to deal with these trolls from under the bridges... taking tolls...
