Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

THEN WHY ARE YOU STILL USING REDDIT?!
And worse of all, using the official Reddit client... ugh...
Are there still any other options?
Old.reddit on browser. Or redreader
I personally use rdx.overdevs.com. It's UI is absolutely fantastic. It's read-only, but that's perfect because I've resolved to never post there again
If you like read-only, can I recommend Stealth?
oh cool, i didn't know about it! Is there a way to customise your feed and subscribe to certain subs in Stealth?
Yes, you can subscribe to subs but the process is a little painful. Especially if you have a bunch. And there's no backup option that I can tell.
Can install via F-Droid or Obtanium. It's also really nice-looking.
thank you, @[email protected], you've been very helpful. Very open (some might say gaping) with your information :)
If you are using old reddit, might I suggest Old Lander script via Tampermonkey / Greasemonkey ? It made old reddit terrific for me (terrific = user friendly beyond any app)
ooh where do i find this? Is it in the tampermonkey extension already, or do I have to import it from somewhere?
It's not inbuilt in the TamperMonkey, but if you have TM installed in your browser (I use firefox) - then you can head to GitHub and install the js from there (scroll to the bottom of the GitHub page)

Revanced 3rd party apps
I’m listening…
Relay. Still working until dev launches the paid version afaik.
It's launched now :( sad day when I had to uninstall
Redreader still works due to the disability exemption.
Redreader was my favourite app... I ended up giving it up for Lemmy fully in July anyway.
I use it because there are two communities I still want to see, one is a kebble sub, and the other has torrents which are easier to find than going to a torrent site.
I was part of several kebble subs, but when the APIcalypse happened, I decided it was time to let go of all of it.
How did you manage to get into many? I'm in the one with Kebble in it, but I've never even been invited to any others.
I left comments in a variety of subs, and a few of them appear to be popular among kebble sub owners. Actually there’s this one particularly unhinged guy who makes way too many kebble subs. He goes by many names, most of which have been banned from Reddit. Anyway, when he wants yo run another one of his twisted experiments, he pulls from the same subs, and I got dragged in more than once.
Interesting. The one I'm in pulls from /r/all.
Then you’d better not be complaining. Otherwise, this is already past the point of using a system while taking part in it hypocrisy.
I can complain about the direction something is going while continuing to use it. FWIW I still use old Reddit in a browser and will probably leave if that stops working.
That’s misconstruing that concept. You can but the point of that argument is that you complain to the people who can change it not to the people that left the system.
Because lemmy isn’t nearly as large as reddit and most of the communities I’m in are barely (if at all) active on lemmy
Be the change you want to see in the world. I loved r/writingprompts, and the one on Lemmy is practically dead except for me posting a prompt about every day or so. I've been tossing memes from my collection into different communities just to get content out there too.
He is obviously using both reddit and lemmy. Just because he stops using reddit it wont make the topics he follows on lemmy magically active.
In other words, “I’m not willing to inconvenience myself even in the slightest to stand by the principles I claim to hold”. You want to have your cake and eat it too.
No, in other words I still like participating in communities for games, shows, and other topics that I like and there isn’t an alternative to reddit to fulfill my wants. Reddit won’t care if I stop using it, they’ll still make their money from the 99% of users (or more) who don’t care. I’d love to use lemmy more but a social platform doesn’t work for me if I can’t find people I want to socialize with.
In other words, “I’m not willing to inconvenience myself even in the slightest to stand by the principles I claim to hold”.
If everyone does what you do, no one leaves Reddit and they don’t learn their lesson. You can’t keep rewarding this bullshit so they get paid and then act surprised when they pull exactly the same shit. At some point, the blame is on you.
Most of their moneymakers are casual internet users who don’t care about any of this stuff and would only stop using reddit of it literally became unusable. If everyone who would be willing to use Lemmy stopped using reddit permanently right now they still wouldn’t care and would have plenty of users left.
That’s irrelevant. No one cares if Reddit cares right now. They start caring when it affects their bottom line and, as we’re already seeing, bot accounts and reposts that have taken over are hurting their bottom dollar because people aren’t seeing the ads. If you’re still going there, you’re helping them get paid.
"STOP HAVING FUN!"
If your idea of fun is constantly complaining about something that you supposedly moved away from because it was terrible, please post any events or parties you may be attending to this comment so that we may all avoid them.
U puttin' words on mah mouth fwend. Anyways here's one event y'all haters can avoid have fun in worker's paradise a.k.a. 'everywhere but the US'
Wtf are you even talking about? Was that supposed to be a link to something? Great job.
Why are you still in a community that's talking about reddit?
It shows up on the main feed because you people won’t stop bitching and pining about it like an ex that you can’t stop talking about to everyone within earshot.
So... block the community. Or do you enjoy all the cringe anime lewds and incel memes that make it to the main feed too?
You’re right. When I saw this, I didn’t realize it was in the Reddit community. I wouldn’t agree with you if it was any other community because most of us came to Lemmy to get away from Reddit but that can’t apply to this community.
Sorry you’re getting downvoted. That’s lame. Probably because of the anime and incel part of the comment. Ok, maybe you deserve it a little… You should feel right at home. 🤣
Rofl, all good. But I've seen some weird communities make it to Top 6 hours with like 10 votes.
