One of my favorite guns is the old earth hunting rifle. Awesome sniper to engage with first and then move in. I do wish the guns had a little more kick in general. That’s my only criticism
I'm kinda disappointed there is no dismemberment, coupled with the more realistic ragdoll physics, because yeah. The lack of heads exploding and bodies being flung back does make them seem less powerful than they look. Still, there is something to be said about an enemy just crumpling upon death that is pretty visceral.
I wonder if that’s something that MS asked Bethesda to tone down for some type of non-US audience reasons. Bethesda has always loved their icky bits in the games (looking at you various Cannabalism related perks!). I mean we can traffic in organs in Starfield! So some ick is still there. But maybe someone considers the head-popping and body blowing up stuff to be just a bit too far though.
I don't know if it's because of the difficulty I'm playing at but enemies are spongy as fuck and they're not really fun to fight. They're not even difficult to deal with (particularly if you have any background in FPS games), they just rinse your ammo. I want to say there's a mod out there to rebalance this. I'll try and find it for the both of us (assuming you're also playing on desktop?)
I managed to use about 1200 rounds for my maelstrom just doing the mantis quest. Probably 40 shotgun shells as well. Playing on hard. These guys arent bullet sponges they are bullet black holes hahaha
That was one complaint I had as well. I didn't find the game difficult, but I was draining resources a lot faster than I liked. I ended up in a long series of shootouts at one point in the game and was not gaining ammo as fast as I was using it.
Turning the game to an easier difficulty made the enemies less spongy, and I was using less ammo as a result, but it doesn't feel like a good use of the difficulty slider.
I would prefer having enemies remain easy to kill, but having higher difficulties just make me easier to kill as well. If all the difficulty slider does is give enemies more health, it's not really a difficulty slider, it's just a tedium slider.
100% agreed. I'm all for rebalancing their health and increasing the lethality of their shots. Again, I believe there's already a mod out there for it.
Yeah I’ve noticed I drop ammo so fast as well. I’m not too bothered by the sponginess. Although I suppose I wouldn’t mind an ai combat overhaul. By kick I meant more physical recoil. Most of the guns kinda feel the same aside from the rate of fire.
Oh right, I see, my mistake. I've not used a great enough variety of weapons yet. I'll keep my eye on this.
I wouldn't mind a mod that increased both in and outbound damage. On the highest difficulty, it really does feel as if you can fuck around quite a lot with little consequence.
This is sadly how the difficulty is with the games on this engine. I usually just stick to normal until I can mod it to be exactly the way I want. Enemies only start becoming bullet sponges when they are much higher level and you haven't kept up, but the first couple of levels before you add to your damage from skills is kinda rough. I haven't even really sifted through the skill tree much yet because I'm still working on upping my damage. One more skill and I should be able to use pretty much any pistol I want to one shot anyone who doesn't have shields.
Yeah, I definitely remember this being the case with fallout 4.
It's because the game adds 20 hp per character level to every enemy to scale them. There's already mods to change this so they're less spongy
Yup, using the make enemies less spongy mod. I would like another mod that made their shots more lethal to me however
