The war exposed just how gullible people are. After being fed bullshit for two whole years, they will still guzzle it completely uncritically.

It would basically be a suicide for ASML to go along with this. Same for companies like Micron in Japan that have something like 40% of their sales going to China. The US is asking its vassals to jump on the sword here, and that just might be too big an ask. Losing sales in China alone is an existential threat, but it gets worse because now China will double down on domestic production. Once that gets ramped up, we'll see Chinese companies compete on the global market in a few years.

The best case scenario for western at that point will be that the west is going to ban all tech from China, but that's still going to be a tiny market compared to what they had before. That means Chinese companies will be bringing in a lot more profits, and that will translate into doing more R&D. So, we'll be seeing Chinese tech increasingly pull ahead of the west I expect.

There is a clip where he goes to visit troops after getting elected, and one of the fascists just laughs at him when he says he's the president and the army has to do what he says. So, I think it was made clear to him who was actually running things right from the start. It's possible that he genuinely believed his platform before the election, but given who his backers were it should've been obvious that they had no interest in any sort of reconciliation.

To be fair, I think his main goal was to show that he personally still has support from the US. This gives him an upper hand in the palace intrigue that's going on in Ukraine right now. Ultimately, he just wants some breathing room to plan his escape when the whole thing collapses.

Exactly, it's shockingly blunt and honest. They don't try to sugar coat it in any way, which was really amazing to me. Perhaps it wasn't expect to be made public?

wonder if the propagandist who wrote the article was aware enough to realize that

Yeah that's the one, I remember it because the other amazing bit was this

Indigenous peoples are formally involved in the governance of unceded territories across Canada, including in densely populated areas.

They just straight up admit that Canada is occupying sovereign indigenous land

I really hope these idiots don't drag us into WW3. It's certainly looking more likely by the day though.

Didn't CSIS put out a report how they see people rising up against the government once they realize how fucked they are economically as one of the major risks going forward? I bet that's what all the beefing up of military is about.

Absolutely hilarious to see how the witch hunts are fuelling brain drain to China.

CNN comes out with an article saying that economy is doing great because a whole bunch of jobs were created.

https://www.cnn.com/business/live-news/jobs-report-january-02-02-24/index.html

On the surface that sounds great, but then we can look at other factor, such as the fact that most people in US can't afford an unexpected $1,000 expense.

https://fortune.com/2024/02/01/emergency-1000-expense-most-americans-broke-debt-bankrate/

This implies that people are being paid subsistence wages, and aren't able to meet their needs. This is further supported by data from Monster showing that 37 percent of people have two full time jobs now in order to pay their bills.

Turns out that this precise dynamic was identified by Marx in the first volume of Das Kapital:

To me, this is a great example of theory being an invaluable tool for understanding what's actually happening in the world.

The concept of generating employment holds little significance when businesses are not mandated to pay their workers an equitable and livable wage.

To sum up, read theory!
