This is exactly the view Michael Hudson put forward in the latest interview with Ben Norton, that this is just a trigger point for the US to target Iran. They need some BS casus belli like how 9/11 was the motivation to go to war in Iraq. Pepe Escobar mentions the oil near Palestine, but I think that is chump change compared to the larger US strategy in the region.
